the phone. There are different ways, in which you can influence the prospect effectively, even if
you cannot see him.


Using more powerful and abrupt pattern interrupts will really work great, when you are making a
cold call. During a conversation in person, a handshake may be sufficient, but something that
simple will not work over the phone.


One of the effective pattern interrupts to use, when talking to a prospect over the phone, is to ask
his something completely off topic. If you are not risk averse, you can readily dare to laugh at the
person to make him confused and puzzled enough to focus his attention on every word you are
saying.


In order to make the most out of a cold call, you should avoid putting too much effort in pleasing
the prospect customer. Instead of hurrying to say, “yes, sir” in the most determined manner, you
should focus on using the language the prospect is using as well as his tone of voice.


It is equally important for you to be the leading person in the conversation. You should not let
silence get in the way. Listen to what the prospect has to say and be prepared to reply.


Use different conversation management techniques to keep the person on the line as well as to
direct the conversation in the direction that you want. Use pacing and leading to get agreement to
the things you propose.
