                                           Message from the Principal
This past year at the Academy has been one of both challenges and rewards.
AlhamduAllah, we have seen some great strides made in making our school the best in
the Province. With this goal in mind, we are pleased to announce a great addition to our
curriculum. Beginning in September 09 we will be offering the Pre-Advanced Placement
program (AP). For those who are not familiar with this program, it is similar to the Pre-
International Baccalaureate (IB). Both programs of fer students academically challenging courses during their
pre-high school career. AP may enable students to take advantage of Advanced Placement opportunities offered
by some colleges. We are very excited about this program and all of the opportunities it af fords our students.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who made my first year at the Academy such a memorable one.
First and foremost, all thanks must go to Allah (SWT) the sustainer of us all. A huge thank you to the teachers,
staff and administration of EIA. You have been a great team to work with, and no matter what challenge I have
given you, you have risen to the occasion. To the parents of EIA, I can honestly say , I have never met so many
parents willing to give so much of themselves for their child's education. It has been an honour to work with you.

Last, but by no means least, to the students of EIA, you have been the greatest inspiration for the staf f. Many
frustrating days have ended in smiles because of your insights and comments. We continue to strive for the excel-
lence we know this Academy can attain because of each and every one of you. Continue to practice good Islamic
character over the summer holidays, and we will see you in September . For those who will not be returning, we
wish you the best in your future endeavors. To

Qura’n Club was a year full of inspiration and learning
We are pleased to inform you of the progress of the students who have shared in the Qura'n Club for the year
2008-2009. We would like to deeply thank our students for their devotion and interest to study Quran after the
regular school hours. This is in keeping with the aims we had at beginning of the year ; to inspire the students to
have the internal motivation to expand their Quranic knowledge and to fulfill the Hadith of the prophet (PBUH)

Traveling with kids can be a dream... or a nightmare
Summer is just around the corner and most of us will travel with our kids for hours, and hours, and hours... Your
destination might only be 3 hours away, but when you are asked "Are we there yet?" every few minutes, you can
mentally say goodbye to relaxation . But travel with kids shouldn't stop you from seeing the world! Here are
some great tips on how to make your trips go easier:

To prepare, tell your children as much as
possible about where you'll be going. If
appropriate, involve your kids in planning
for the trip as for most of them the anticipa-
tion and preparation is half the fun.
Gathering up a few brochures and travel
pamphlets or going on line with your kids
and letting them see a few of the attractions MOOOOM
of your trip will pump up their interest level

Tell them what you expect regarding their
behaviour. For instance, you can tell them
that fighting in the car is not allowed.

Always be prepared for that car sickness
with plastic bags and wipes.

Bring lots of fun things for kids to do: video games, cards, stickers and coloring books. Listening to audio books
gives the kids something to do with their minds as it stimulates their imagination. A disposable camera will keep
your child busy looking out the window of the car for cows, horses, or anything they might find interesting. The
pictures will be blurry, but that's beside the point!

Pack individual little bags for each child with items they choose to bring in the car or the airplane. These little
backpacks can hold their favorite toys, books or games. Don't forget to write the child's name and phone number
inside the bag.

Snacks that you might want to bring with you: crackers, applesauce and fruit cups, individual cereal boxes, rice
cakes, pop tarts, fresh or dried fruits. Try to stay away from candies as we have all experience the ef fect sugar
has on our kids. Take frequent breaks at least every two hours. Look for playgrounds or rest areas with room for
kids to run and play . Give older kids a map and ask them to help navigate or challenge them to find out how
many kilometres to the next town.

Travel is a wonderful opportunity for quality family time and you and your kids can really enjoy the wide world
around you. Remember this is a holiday and you need to have fun, so don’ t sweat the small stuff, just enjoy.

                         ACADEMY CLUB
Fledgling year proves very positive for Academy Club
This school year has seen the launch of a first time ever initiative by the Academy to present to parents the
Academy Club. The Academy Club is a parent club, whose or ganizers have worked tire-
lessly to put together a program and present workshops aimed at giving parents the neces-
sary skills that assist with raising well rounded, confident, self motivated Muslim kids with
strong personality and exemplary character in a western society Ultimately, parents are pri-
marily responsible for the nurturing and education of their children.

This year has seen facilitators come from far across the globe including Mr Edris Khamissa
from South Africa, Sr. Shahina Siddiqui from Winnipeg, and our very own Dr Mohamed Sadiq, Dr Hamza Mitha
and Brs Murtadah Shah and Anwar Idris, who did workshops on Self Esteem, Connecting
With Your Kids, Discipline and Behaviour Management, Nutrition, and Internet Awareness,
respectively. In addition, staff and student workshops were of fered as well.

The Academy Club Team would like to extend a huge thank you to Br Kamal Hammad
and the rest of the Parent Council for their financial and moral support during this, our
first year of activity . Also, a special thank you to Angie Teliani and Academy
Banquets, for their assistance, as well as the babysitters who took care of the kids dur-
ing each event. A huge thank you to all members of the organizing team, for your many hours and tireless effort
in making this venture come to fruition with Allah's help: Roula Salam, Dima Othman, Aziz Jama, Mana Ali,
Deebe Eldassouki, Benaouda Bensaid (Abdul Qadir), and teachers Fadila Grine, Noreen Bashir , Lobna Nagib,
Tamir Ali, Shameeza Khan, and especially our awesome Principal, Mr Abdullah Omar, whose unwavering sup-
port was the light that encouraged us through the rough patches.

The team is working once again to put together a fabulous calendar for next year , the topics of which are essen-
tial knowledge and are 'must attend' workshops.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
"One who treads a path in search of knowledge
has his path to Paradise made easy by God…"

In addition to the workshop format, we hope to have a Book Club and other activities next year inshaAllah.
Thank you to all the parents who have attended this year, and hope to see you and many many more parents next
year InshaAllah.

Best regards,
We would love to hear from you.

                       PARENT COUNCIL
Hard work and effort key to Parent Council success
The Parent Council has enjoyed a very successful year due to the ef forts of many parents who relentlessly strive
to make our Academy the best school in Alberta! The following are some of the many areas the Parent Council
has focused on:

Safety in the parking lot and around the school- We are all extremely proud of those dedicated parents who
greet us with a smile & the slogan of peace "As-salaam Alykum" every morning. They are always volunteering
despite the pressures of Alberta weather. Moreover, these parents have spent more than $5,000.00 towards the
parking lot safety.

Emergency meeting point has been successfully installed
by Br. Nazir to help the school with its emer gency evacua-
tion plan.

Playground Completion- The playground completion work
will cost the Parent Council near $45,000.00 with the follow-
ing new additions: Basketball courts, benches/picnic
tables, concrete garbage cans, and fencing.

globe for qualified speakers to bring knowledge to parents, staf f and students alike.
Clean Up Day- The parent council has conducted the first annual clean up day very successfully . Thanks to all
of those parents and children who participated during this event to keep the outside of our school clean.

Science and Islamic Fair Support-The parent council has contributed to judging the Science Fair and sponsored
prizes for both Science and Islamic Fair.

Parents Outreach Program- The parent outreach program was kicked of f this year by Br. Melhem. We need a
more active group of parents to capitalize on their strength in order to help our Academy excel! Parent involve-
ment is key to the success of our school.

Classroom Technology-Based on the recommendations of our school administration, the parent council will
sponsor a $20,000 pilot program for classroom technology in 2009/2010. Our goal is to extend the technology
to every classroom in the next 2 years.
Thank you all again for your continued support. Have a relaxing summer break with your children, we look for-
