Anthony Ball – Executive Manager, Policy & Government, ClubsNSW

the Productivity Commission’s inquiry into gambling is the most important national
review of the industry since their landmark 1999 report. that report set the gambling
policy agenda for a decade - greatly increasing regulator focus on gaming machines
and driving dramatic change to state and territory legislation, including that affecting
clubs. the 2009 update could do the same and is being keenly observed by gambling
operators, the media, the anti-gambling lobby, federal and state governments and of
course, influential independent senators in the australian Parliament. this session
will look at the review from all angles and answer questions like: Why did it come about? What direction
will it take? What are the likely outcomes? What approach has been taken by Clubsaustralia? and in the
end what will it mean for clubs?
