TO REIGN ON THE EARTH Keith Allen Here we are at the start of 2011. With unprecedented floods in Queensland and heavy rain following drought in many other places, we need to be asking ourselves what this means in the Spirit. What does it mean for the Kingdom of God? I cannot answer this right now but what I do know is that there is a kind of law – the law of the Spirit of life - that exists in sharp contrast to the chaos of life lived in the old covenant life and the knowledge of good and evil. Following His resurrection Jesus appeared and declared, ‘Peace be with you.’ Let’s be clear. Christianity in itself cannot provide peace or life. The new creation is a life that is lived in the Person of Jesus. Jesus is the WHO by which we live in God. Christ is all and in all. This is so because Jesus is I AM, the exact representation of the Father. Christ is all and in all because in Him all things have their purpose and being. It is so because He is above all things and in Him all things exist. Physical and spiritual laws are the expression of His Person. Were God to suddenly turn Himself off, the entire cosmos would disappear. But in Him there is life without measure (Col 1.16, 1 Cor 8.6, Acts 17.28). Life without measure is peaceful, prosperous and rich with opportunity. Obviously there is no chaos, disaster and death in the realm that is His cited above. People don’t get drowned in heaven. But one thing is certain. No one who ignores God can enjoy the life of God. Neither can those whose life is in religion experience the fullness of life expressed in this LIFE IN GOD. Life in its individual and cosmic sense is found in fellowship with God. Jesus is the law of the Spirit of Life. In Him all things really do have their purpose and being. Jesus is the Prince of Peace because in Him all things hold together and find their purpose. But when Adam chose to remove His heart from the Father and believe Satan, man’s being and the entire creation began to groan and grind in disharmony and dysfunction. Man chose the knowledge of good and evil and this is what he got in the physical and spiritual realm – a fragmented person and a chaotic earth. As daughters and sons we were made to live in God. The creation was made to live in God, since creation is spiritual as well as physical. The creation can serve man only when it finds its being in God. But for nature to ‘worship’ its Creator man has to live in Christ, worship Christ and bring the earth under the principles of the law personified – Jesus the living word and logos. In Jesus all things, including you, hold together. ‘He is before all things, and in him all things hold together’ Col 1.17 NIV. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to follow the logic. In Jesus all things hold together. Outside of Jesus they do not. So what are you living in? Church, social conscience, contemporary issues, missionary work, spiritual gifts? You have been redeemed to live in God’s Son! It’s important to understand the following. When Jesus took His place beside the Father with all authority, the era of Adam had ended and the era of the new man began. This man/woman lives in Christ as a reigning son. The new man is one with Himself and one with nature because He is one with God. One with God because he is living in the One Spirit. He/she is a kingly priest called to reign on the earth to join with Jesus in bringing all things under His feet. People get to reign over the earth as they live a life in Jesus. I’m wondering when those who are satisfied with living through church and manufacturing ‘christianity’ bereft of the Presence of Christ will eventually get the message and cease being among those who destroy the earth. The other thing to be understood and to be lived in is that the Law of the Spirit of Life is not Mosaic laws, regulations or any kind of performance orientation. We have at this time misguided people who are running around attempting to renew their lives in Moses laws and their church doctrinal positions. Anyone who lives under the law is under a curse. A curse which takes the form of captivity to sin and vulnerability to personal and public chaos. They are living in a realm in which Satan has been ceded authority. On the other hand those for whom Jesus is their life will reign on the earth. ‘You have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth’ Rev 5.10 NLT. We can be kings and priests or lackeys and slaves. Jesus walked on water as a sign. This was one of the signs of the Son of Man. This was a prophetic sign of the restoration of the sovereignty of man over nature. Of course you don’t have to accept this. You can continue to bleat about heaven and be stuck with what you’ve got. The Law of the Spirit is life is very simple and profoundly powerful. It is spirit. It is life and it creates order and harmony. It is Christ in you, Christ as you, Christ through you multiplied into the world – not only through your new potency as a son and daughter of God but as the Bride of Christ, fertile and pregnant with His plans, purposes, healing and restoration. Life in Christ is the kingdom of God, a kingdom in which people increasingly reign over ‘self’ and over nature. To be in Christ is to have Christ in us. By the One Spirit we are pregnant with His plans, thoughts, actions and awareness. By the One Spirit heaven and earth become one. The Fatherhood of God and the sovereignty of sons is the means whereby the Kingdom comes and His will is done on earth as it is in heaven. In union with God through Jesus and the Spirit we birth the new creation into the domains in which God has give us to reign. Thus the kindergarten, the kitchen and the laboratory become outposts of the Kingdom of God. Living in God through Christ we advance in colonizing a world that still remains in the realm of the knowledge of good and evil. In so doing the kingdoms of the world become the Kingdoms of our Lord. Rather than a pious utterance the Lord’s prayer becomes a reality.
