As we enter the last quarter of 2010 we find it hard to believe how quickly the time has
passed, it seems like yesterday that we were still in the planning stages of all big events we
had to look forward in 2010 – not least of these a very successful Soccer World Cup campaign.

We stood as a nation united with hope of a stronger and bright future for all of us.

CanCare started the year off by setting huge goals in terms of fundraising and income.
Knowing that the funds generated would enable us to address the ever growing demand for
assistance in the homes of cancer sufferers.

As an organisation we always strive to keep a balance between that which we know we can do
and the measure of faith that is needed to take us the rest of the way. Instead of staying
within the fundraising target range of R180 000 which we achieved in 2009, we set ourselves
a target of R250 000 to R500 000 for 2010.
We had our fundraising events planned for the year and sprinted out of the blocks in January
to make them all happen.

The result was a beautiful and inspiring CanCare Ladies Tea with Natasha Sutherland. What a
privilege it was to learn from her positive attitude on life with a dash of healthy humour on the
side. This will definitely become a CanCare signature event, so look out for another ladies
“TREAT” morning around March/April 2011.

Our second Annual CanCare Warm Winter Dance took place in May - another event that is now
becoming well known on the CanCare calendar. It was hugely successful and thoroughly
enjoyed by all and our bank balance received a very hard-earned boost.

We had a series of smaller events in between as the months went on and they all helped us to
keep our bank balance growing whilst we were still tending to our list of beneficiaries every
month.

We are ending the year with a BANG! We have two wonderful events to look forward to within
the next month and a half:
    Nataniel – 13 October 2010 – Usambara – Roodepoort.

This gentleman is very well known for his wonderful style, eccentric humour, and beautiful
singing talent. His live show is a rare treat. Don’t miss this show.

                   and Guinness World Record Attempt
                        5 and 6 November 2010

We are extremely excited about this event!

Guinness has given us the go ahead to have a team of 6 ladies attempt to put up the furthest
distance on a fixed cycle (spinning cycle) in 24 hours. We know we can walk away with this
one. We have assembled a wonderful team of experienced lady cyclists to attempt this record
for us.

However, we also want these ladies to be able to feed off your support and positive energy
whilst they make this effort, so you must enter your own teams, cycle in support, help us to
raise funds for our cause, and stand up in society as leaders in the fight against cancer!

Details on both events are available on this website.

Finally we think about those whom we have been fortunate to assist as a result of all of our
efforts with the fundraising schedule.

CanCare walks a long road with cancer patients and their families and we assist them to keep
their lives intact as far as possible for as long as possible whilst they undergo treatment or
sadly until they pass away.

We have been in operation for a mere 3 years but have managed to distribute approximately
R300 000 in mostly long term aid programs to more than 25 families in this time.

We have assisted – amongst others - 6 families where children are suffering from cancer.

In the beginning of the year we received the joyous news for the first time that one of these
children – Nkosi Nkuna, went into complete remission and that our aid to his family was no
longer needed.

We were also able to assist Mr. Vermaak – a Leukeamia sufferer. He was in urgent need of a
bone marrow transplant for survival and received one recently. His illness meant that he was
unable to work and provide for his family, so CanCare assisted with a household subsidy. The
subsidy meant that he could concentrate on getting treatment and getting better –after
receiving the transplant he has a real chance to survive, he was told this time last year that he
had 3 months to live.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families and friends of those cancer patients who are
dear to them or who have passed on.
