site planning guide your PET mobile For more information: tel: 01295 671279 fax: 01295 671233 email: pet@alliance.co.uk www.alliancemedical.co.uk The purpose of this booklet is to provide the customer with the necessary information for preparing a site to accept the Alliance Mobile PET system and to ensure its proper operation. The contents are considered to be confidential and may not be revealed or used, either partially or wholly, for any purpose inconsistent with which it was submitted. contents p2 Section 1: Pad Requirements.....................................................................p3 Section 2: Vehicle Access............................................................................p4 Section 3: Features of the mobile PET scanner.........................................p5 Section 4: Power Requirments.................................................................p10 Section 5: Other Services.........................................................................p13 Section 6: Radiation Issues......................................................................p14 For more information: Alliance Medical, Home Farm Drive, Upton, Oxon, OX15 6HU. tel: 01295 671279 fax: 01295 671233 email: pet@alliance.co.uk www.alliancemedical.co.uk pad requirements p3 The following is a list of recommendations and requirements for a concrete support pad however, due to varying site conditions a local contractor should be consulted for actual pad design. Recommended pad layouts Support Pad - A full pad measuring 3.04m x 13.68m located as shown on the diagram below. The support pad must be level (no more than 150mm variations over length and 50mm variation across length) to insure proper operation of the Mobile PET System. Service Pad - A full pad measuring 6.40m x 15.50m located as shown on the diagram below, is recommended to provide service access, (and magnet helium transfer where MR services are provided also). This is optional if space is available. 15.50m 13.68m 3.04m The Support Pad 6.40m The Service Pad Steel reinforced concrete pad Maximum 20kg/m2 of steel. Alliance Medical operates a range of medical scanners including MR, CT and PET, all with varying power requirements. The scanners require a 3/N/PE AC415V supply with a maximum current load of 175 AMPERES per phase for an MR. Hospitals should consider providing this supply for the largest current at the outset of the service as the equipment supplied to the hospital may change at a later date. Power requirements for a PET mobile Peak power demand Voltage range TRAILER A/C etc Peak instantaneous power demand Continuous power demand Feed transformer min available is a capacity of 150kva at a maximum of 5% Connector type Y 10KVA 200VAC - 250VAC 55KVA 42KVA The unit is supplied with a 10.66m long cable and male connector (plug). The plug connector for units demanding over 175 AMP supply will require: BICC MARECHAL DS 200 Panel Mounted Socket DS 2701M, Sleeve D12 and Draw Base 392D396. The cable is positioned mid-way along the length of the trailer on the opposite side to the lift and stairs. The socket should be placed a minimum of 1m above the ground so that there is sufficient clearance for the plug to be inserted and removed and it must be housed in a lockable waterproof box with high voltage information. Alliance Medical is able to supply such a box (200a Power Box ASB 200) complete with power outlet, breakers, safety cutouts and telephone outlets, please see the diagram over the page. (Delivery 2-3 weeks, price on application) . Comprising of a 22a three phase MCCB with earth fault service and a cabinet door, interlocked and supplied with standard hasp for padlocking (padlocks included). 2BT sockets are also supplied (unwired) complete with waterproof telephone outlets and adaptors. This phone line will be used for internal communication with the hospital especially emergency calls such as crash and fire. Humidifier water fill The unit humidification system contains a 15 gallon water storage tank. This tank is located in the front Equipment Room and must always contain water to issue the specified humidity level. To fill this tank a .019m (.75") i.p.s male threaded hose connection is located under the front kick of the trailer. If a water supply hose is not available, the humidifier storage tank may be filled manually with a portable water container which is provided by the unit. A water tap close to the scanner is recommended both to fill the humidifier and more importantly, to wash the scanner down after transport. For more information: Alliance Medical, Home Farm Drive, Upton, Oxon, OX15 6HU. tel: 01295 671279 fax: 01295 671233 email: pet@alliance.co.uk www.alliancemedical.co.uk radiation issues Closed sources Scanner Attenuation Correction Sources: 2 x Ge 68 @ 10.81 mCi (400 MBq) each Calibration Source: 1 x Ge 68 @ 1.62 mCi (60MBq) Calibration Reference Source: Cs137 @ 0.2 mCi (7.4MBq) Open sources p 14 The activity used on site will be based on an average patient dose of 10.81 mCi/400MBq per patient scanned for up to 8 patients a day. It is expected that for 8 patients there will be two deliveries a day (4 patient doses per delivery). Below is an indicative view of how the day may be scheduled, with an outline of the activities that may be required to scan 8 patients. In the example below the total FDG activity for the day would be 8400 MBq or 227mCi. For simplicity sake the half life has been set at 120 minutes rather than the actual 110 minutes of FDG. For more information: Alliance Medical, Home Farm Drive, Upton, Oxon, OX15 6HU. tel: 01295 671279 fax: 01295 671233 email: pet@alliance.co.uk www.alliancemedical.co.uk radiation issues Radiation Protection p 15 The Unit has been designed with an exceptional level of Radiation protection for both the public and staff and has the highest levels of lead protection (please see diagram showing the mobile’s layout) of any system in the world, providing the maximum level of safety and flexibility. It can be parked in virtually any space with no need for an exclusion zone even for those people who are spending long periods of time close to the outside of the scanner. The calculations undertaken by our consultant RPA will be provided as part of our support package in addition to Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER) and local rules. Regulations and licenses The Clinician in charge of administering the FDG must hold an ARSAC license for the tracer before they can administer FDG and report PET images. This form, (Application for a Certificate to Administer Radioactive Medicinal Products), can be obtained from the Department Of Health at: ARSAC Support Unit , National Radiological Protection Board, Didcot, Oxon OX11 0RQ or telephone them on 01235 832421/834925. Environment agency (EA) Licences will be required from the EA for the following: 1. Accumulation & Disposal of Radioactive Waste (FDG) - Hospital’s responsibility 2. Open Sources (FDG) - Hospital’s responsibility 3. Closed Sources Ge 68 - A Mobile license held by Alliance Medical Alliance Medical will be happy to work with you to fill in any relevant forms and will provide expert advice from our RPA as requested. We can also supply copies of the required forms if requested. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) The Health and Safety Executive must be informed 28 days prior to starting any new service which involves Ionising Radiation.
