LONDON - The Directors of Marlborough Fine Art will be holding an exhibition of a
new series of lithographs by Paula Rego from 7th September - 6 October 2007. This
series of 8 new works is inspired by a short story by the Portuguese novelist Jo?o de

In de Melo's short story, wine is not a diversion but a re-engagement with life, an
awakening that imparts a new freedom and a fresh intensity to the narrative voice. The
lead character takes us on an exploration into the 'unique and delicious secrets of
wine', secrets that reveal and illuminate aspects of his humanity otherwise lost in the
monotony of his daily existence as an office worker.

Enitharmon are publishing a limited edition book with the text by de Melo, illustrated
by Paula Rego: each one a story in itself, and all indicative of the transforming effects
of 'the colour, the soul, the profound essence of wine.' Rego is also the translator of de
Melo's short story - his first to appear in English.

This is the fourth project that Paula has undertaken with Enitharmon Editions and a
successor to Pendle Witches, The Children's Crusade, and Jane Eyre.

The large format de luxe edition (100 copies) is accompanied by a signed and
numbered colour lithograph, 59 x 47 cm, by Paula Rego, printed at the Royal College
of Art, will be available on the night of the Private View. For further details on the
book please contact Enitharmon directly:

LONDON.- Marlborough Fine Art presents an exhibition of new work by Paula Rego
through 20th August. This is her first solo exhibition in London since 2006. The
exhibition has three separate strands: the first is the Oratorio, a mixed media Triptych
with a central panel and two wings which Paula created for her recent joint exhibition
with Tracey Emin and Matt Collishaw at the Foundling Museum earlier this year. In
addition to the Oratorio, there are six large conté works on paper relating to the
Oratorio and its Foundling Museum origins.

The second strand is made up of a further nine conté works on paper which the artist
has completed, following on from the Foundling pictures, in which she explores a
variety of new themes entitled The Birthday Party, The Dolls Playground, The
Overseer and others.
