DerBY DAY
A book titled ‘Derby Day’ is currently being researched and
written on rugby in South Africa’s traditional schools.
A chronological history for each school will be recorded, with
complementary anecdotes and contributions to encapsulate
the schools’ rugby spirit and traditions.
Much of the history has been captured already but the
authors are hoping that any Old Boys who may have rugby-
related anecdotes to share, whether interesting or humorous,
would pen and send their thoughts, to offer further insight
into the traditions and memories that complement the formal

The traditional Old Boys versus school boys hockey, rugby and squash matches were played on 31 July. Pictured below are the Old Boys and
school first team players after the match which the school boys won 35-27. The winter sports day has become very popular with five rugby
matches being played and more Old Boys wanting to participate. The Union is accordingly considering revising the way Old Boys teams are
