1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Definitions

Something that is bestowed voluntarily and without compensation. 2.A talent, endowment, aptitude, or bent 3. to endow with; invest The art or operation of regulating occurrence, pace, or coordination to achieve the most desirable effects, as in music, the theater, athletics, or in a machine.
In 1 Corinthians 12, the Apostle Paul is laying a foundation for spiritual gifts in his instructions to the New Testament Church. He points out the importance of understanding and operating your spiritual gift. In verse 1 of Chapter 12, he states I don’t want you to be ignorant concerning your spiritual gifts nor do I want you to combine old wives fables, witchcraft, or idolatry (idolworshipping) - I want you to know the voice of God! It is the Holy Spirit that convicts and convinces one of the transforming power of God. Many of you tonight have deep concerns regarding your spiritual gifts. 1. How to identify your gift? 2. How to operate your gift? 3. Godly timing? There are 9 Gifts of the Spirit, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Working of Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Divers Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues. Strangely, the answer to the questions that were posed in tonight’s lesson were not answered in chapter 12, but in chapter 13, the Apostle Paul deals exclusively with love and states that “your spiritual gift profits nothing, if it’s not motivated and deeply rooted in love. Gifts are operated through love. Love also helps to identify the gift already activated, alive and working in you. Paul states in chapter 13, “communication with angels and humans may make you an exceptional person, but profits nothing without love. Faith that moves mountains nothing without love, feeding the poor, giving one’s body to be burned in the place of another profits nothing without love.
In 1 Corinthians 14:1, the Apostle Paul continues his discussion on Spiritual Gifts. In 14:2, desiring Spiritual Gifts and most important asking God for the gift of prophecy. Prophecy edifies, comforts and exalts, which are the attributes of love. Essentially, the scriptures teach that without love. One may never enter into the fulfillment of ministry – what should be active ministry will only be a heart’s desire.

Tonight I want to add one more “S” to the principle and that is Sanctified. The bible teaches that if we sanctify ourselves the God of Peace will sanctify us, totally.
