Professor Charles W Munn, OBE, FCIBS
Lay Board Member
Charles Munn is the current chairman of the Customer Contact
Association Academy. He is also a lay member of the Investigations and
Professional Enforcement Committee of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Scotland. He is currently writing two histories of financial
His career began in the British Linen Bank in Glasgow where he worked for
several years before becoming a full time student. He then taught at a
Glasgow College (including CII courses) before taking up a lectureship in
business history at the University of Glasgow where he remained for 10
years. Whilst there he was the Faculty Admissions and Schools Liaison
Officer and worked on a number of special access programmes. He also
wrote the history of the Clydesdale Bank and was Associate editor of the
Scottish Dictionary of Business Biography
In 1988 he became Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in
Scotland where he remained for 19 years. During that time he served a
term as President of the European Bank Training Network and co-wrote the
Institute’s book on ethics, integrity and reputation.
He is an honorary professor in the universities of Dundee, Stirling,
Glasgow and West of Scotland where he gives lectures on business ethics.
He received the OBE in 2005 for services to banking.
