Unit 1: Care Value
To state why confidentiality is important
in the Health & Social Care industry.
State the things it may affect if the
client’s information is not maintained.
State how it is maintained in your setting
and training staff may received about
Think about what may be affected if
confidentiality is not maintained:
How might each point
contribute to a client’s care?
Trust= you are more likely to tell carers what
you really think if you trust them or if you are
Self-esteem=because if they keep your
confidence you feel like you are valued and
respected. You feel like you matter and
therefore self-esteem becomes higher.
Safety= house being empty for periods of time if
client is away from home…may get burgled,
Professionalism= may be part of carers code of
conduct, if the service says they are a
confidential service then they must be!
Legality= laws that require info to be kept
confidential… data protection etc
Discrimination= if passed onto wrong people
may be discriminated against. Eg if a person has
a mental health problem but it was controlled by
drugs it may cause stigma within the community
if it became public knowledge (gossip). Client
may then be emotionally affected, pose a risk to
carer, themselves or others. Unless a carer feels
that their client is at risk of self-harm, suicide
etc it is illegal to break confidence.
You must now put all your knowledge about
confidentiality into your coursework. Think
about the things we have discussed and use
your notes to say:
How care may be affected if confidence is
broken. Link to sub-headings.
how your setting maintains confidentiality.
