The Calleen Art Award was first presented in 1977 through a gift by Patricia Fagan
OAM, founder of the Calleen Art Collection (housed at the Cowra Regional Art
Gallery) and a generous benefactor and supporter of the arts in Cowra.

The Calleen Art Award which is an acquisitive award, and the Calleen Art Collection
have continued to prosper through the generous support of the Calleen Trust and
Gallery patrons Jenni Fagan and Peter Fagan, who are also generous supporters of
the arts in Cowra. During the past 43 years the Calleen Art Award has grown to be
one of the most respected and richest acquisitive regional art awards in NSW - the
2010 Calleen Art Award is worth $12,000. Also, through the Calleen Art Award the
Cowra Regional Art Gallery continues to build an art collection of enduring
significance.

The Central West Regional Artists Award worth $2,000 is non acquisitive and the
winner is also offered an exhibition at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery. This award
was established by the Gallery in 2009 with the generous support of Gallery patron
David Henley. The Central West Regional Artists Award enhances the Gallery's
connection with artists in the region, as well as, fostering the development of the
visual arts in Central West NSW.

The Friends of the Gallery Committee have also generously donated $500 for the
People’s Choice Award which will be announced at the end of the exhibition.

The Calleen Art Award and Central West Regional Artists Award promote the
creation, appreciation and enjoyment of a broad range of art genre and styles. The
2010 awards exhibition is an inspiring mix of engaging themes from portraiture,
abstract painting and personal narratives, to the exploration of the Australian
landscape (regional and urban) in a variety of mediums.

Congratulations to the award winners and all the finalists.
