Listening to CDs
Insert CD into small opening at the bottom of the monitor The CD appears in the source list and the iTunes window shows the songs on the CD.
Ejecting CDs
There are two ways to eject CDs 1. CONTROLS EJECT CD 2. From the desktop, drag CD icon to the trash
Playback Controls
Use the playback controls to play and pause a song and to skip forward or backward to the next song. Play and Pause Scan forward Play window: song that is currently playing and the length of the song.

Add Songs to Library
You can add songs from your favorite CDs to the library. This encodes the song into MP3 format ant stores it on your hard disk so you can listen to it without having the original CD. Insert a music CD into the Mac Songs on the CD are listed in the iTunes window. To remove unwanted songs from being added to the library, click on the checkmark to deselect a song Click the IMPORT button to add the selected songs to the library. The display area at the top of the iTunes window shows how much time it will take to import each one, compared to the time it takes to listen to the song. To cancel import, click the small X next to the progress bar

Here is an example of a song list that could be imported. Click on the checkmarks to deselect a song. If the checkmark shows, the song will be imported.

iTunes plays songs while they are being imported. Click the Pause button to stop playback; the import will continue.

MP3 ENCODER- high quality, Internet-standard encoding method that‟s best for most uses. AIFF and WAV ENCODER- highest quality CDs for computers that do not have MP3 software. Not compressed, require a lot of disk space (about 650 MB per CD) CONFIGURATION: Pull-down menu If you plan to create your own audio CDs, or listen to your music with high-quality stereo speakers, choose the High Quality setting. If you listen with headphones or play music in a noisy environment, choose the Better setting. For portable MP3 players, use the Good setting to fit more songs on the device. The Good setting creates songs about 1MB I size per minute of music.
Creating Playlists
A playlist is a series of songs in the order you want. You can have as many playlists as you like using any of the songs in your library. You also use a playlist to create CDs. Add the songs you want to a playlist then burn the playlist on a blank CD. To create a playlist: FILE NEW PLAYLIST NOTE: Some MP3 players can use playlists. When a player supports playlists, a button appears in the bottomright corner of the iTunes window. Click the button to add a playlist to the player. Does the MP3 player have to be hooked up? If so, how?
Managing Files in Music Library
iTunes displays contents of the music library in the iTunes window. To remove a song from the source list o Select song Then press the DELETE key on the keyboard
Creating CDs
iTunes converts the songs to standard audio files before writing them to the CD. FILE o NEWPLAYLIST – name the playlist
Drag the songs you want on the CD to the new playlist file. Click on the new playlist. o Drag the songs within the playlist into the order you want to hear them. Click on the „Burn CD‟ icon in the top right of the iTunes window Insert a blank CD into the imac. Use only CD-R. -When you complete, go to file -> CD eject to eject the CD
Creating lists of specific songs
FILE NEW PLAYLIST – Name the playlist that appears in the source list Adding songs to the playlist Drag the song from the library to the new playlist. To change the order of songs Select the playlist o Drag the song titles into the order you want them to play *Songs have to be in the library to add them to a playlist. You can‟t add a song directly from a CD. Import it from the CD into the library. Then add it to your playlist.
Importing from other sources
Importing sound files into iTunes FILE ADD TO LIBRARY – Open the source where the songs are located Add a music file to the library A downloaded MP3 file can be added to the music library. Drag the MP3 file to the library. A reference to the file is added to the library, but the file is not copied or moved. If you drop a folder or disk on the Library, all the audio files it contains are added. Add songs from other programs If you have MP3 files from another program, you can add references to these songs to your library so you can play them easily. Drag the file, folder, or disk where the songs are located to the library in the source list in the iTunes window. If you drag a folder or disk, all the audio files it contains will be added. The files are not moved from their original location.
Connect a MP3 player
Transfer songs from your library to a portable MP3 library. iTunes works with several players. Connect the player to your computer with the USB cable that came with the player. After a moment, the player appears in the source list. Drag songs to the player in the source list. You can drag from the library from a playlist you‟ve created. Your player may have other options. Click the Options button in the upper-right corner to access the additional settings that might be there Additional buttons at the bottom of the window may also appear. When you‟re transferring songs to your player, turn the sleep mode off on the iMac. o APPLE MENU CONTROL PANELS

CONVERTING FORMATS iTunes can convert song formats. For example, a song encoded in MP3 can be converted to a WAVfile. EDIT PREFERENCES ADVANCED Tab – Select the encoding format that you want to convert the song to. Click OK Then choose the Convert To item from the Advanced menu. Choose the song, or the folder or disk that contains the songs, you want to convert. If you choose a folder or disk, all the songs it contains will be converted.

1. The CONTROL menu contains a list of keyboard commands for controlling playback. 2. HELP SHOW BALLOONS – Provides additional pop-up help when the mouse moves over something.
