How-To reset your lost administrator Windows XP Password. Using the Q312149 vulnerability http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;312149
Using a boot disk, or after installing a temp second install of XP: Copy C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe C:\windows\system32\login.src Then reboot into your original windows distribution. Allow your logon window to sit there for awhile you will notice when windows finally (be patient) try’s to execute the logon.scr it will exe cmd.exe instead. Run Regedit.. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole Change SecurityLevel D_word value to data value of 1.
This will cause recovery console to logon automatically as administrator. Now exit out of regedit and reboot using the windows XP disk into recovery mode. Make sure you select the windows version in question. Now Type: Del %systemroot%\system32\config\SAM Copy %systemroot%\repair\SAM %systemroot%\system32\config\SAM Now reboot, your administrator password is now reset to none. Notes: 1. This way is a bit time consuming, however the boot disks offered by eunet.no wouldn’t not write to my disk; partition size too large. 2. I didn’t have the heart to give 100+$ to some software company out there. I really am a cheap bastard. Lrights@dragonstalon.org
