RE-DEDICATION OF CALEDON EAST MEMORIAL CENOTAPH

As part of the Town of Caledon’s contribution to the commemoration of the 60th
anniversary of the D-Day invasion, the Town of Caledon will be re-dedicating the
Caledon East Memorial Cenotaph which has been moved from its current location
beside the Fire Hall to a more prominent location beside the Caledon Town Hall in
Caledon East.

The Mayor and Members of Council will be participating in a re-dedication ceremony
on Saturday June 5, 2004 beginning at 4:30 p.m. All residents of Caledon are
invited to participate in this re-dedication ceremony to honour those who valiantly
served their country.

The plaques bearing the names of our fallen soldiers were located in the Caledon
East Legion Hall until 1980. At that time, the hall was closed but the plaques were
preserved and installed on the Cenotaph erected on the site of the former Memorial
Hall next to our fire station in Caledon East. This Cenotaph has now been moved to
a location next to the Caledon Town Hall. By the summer of 2005, a parkette will be
installed around the Cenotaph in its new location. This parkette forms part of the
Town celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Victory Day in World War II.
