Delegating Update Authority – or How to Provide Support Access to eSNAPS
May 2003
This process describes how a Principal Investigator (PI) delegates or removes PI updating authority to another registered eRA Commons user. The user who receives the updating authority can then edit any of the PI's eSNAP grants or Personal Professional Profile.
Open NIH eRA Commons web site: https://commons.era.nih.gov/commons/ and log in. Click on “Administration”
Click on “Accounts”
1
Click on “Delegate PI”
Select the person to assist in the eSNAP process and click on “Assign” button.
A confirmation screen will appear – if the person shown is correct, click on the “Save” button.
2
The “Delegate PI Access” will reappear indicating that delegation was successful. If additional support users are to be assigned, it can be done at this time or later. NOTE: The PI can delegate anyone from the Current Institution Users list to assist in maintaining the PI’s Personal Profile or working on an eSNAP. If the person to be assigned delegation is not listed, they may need to have a Commons account activated for them.
The individual assigned to assist the PI will receive a confirmation email.
Having logged into the Commons, the assigned user clicks on “eSNAP”.
3
Those eSNAPS -- which are associated with the PI the delegated user is assigned to -- are listed.
The delegated Commons User can then select from the eSNAP Menu Bar which function to work on.
NOTE: Only the PI can submit (if given that authority) his/her eSNAP or route it to the appropriate Signing Official (SO) to do so.
The process for delegating access to the PI’s Personal Professional File follows the same method – except the PI (or OCGA Grant Analyst/Department Research Associate) would click on the “Delegate PPF Edit Access” tab.
