Question: How can I be invited to join the National Junior Honor Society?
Answer: Interested students who meet the criteria will receive a Student Information Sheet
by mail in March or April. Student Information Sheets are used to record community service
and other types of volunteerism. A Student Information Sheet must be completed and
returned before a student can be further considered for membership in the National Junior
Honor Society. A faculty council consisting of five members will evaluate all information
provided by each student and will decide if the student meets the criteria for membership in
the National Junior Honor Society.
Question: What happens after that?
Answer: An induction ceremony will be held in April or May (date to be determined) at
Maplewood Middle School. The ceremony will be followed by a reception. Family and
friends are encouraged to celebrate student accomplishments by attending. Students are
also encouraged to invite two teachers who have made a significant impact on their lives.
Question: What if I was inducted as a 7th grader?
Answer: Students that are currently 8th graders (that were inducted as 7th graders) will
participate in several projects throughout the year designed to help their school and
community. Students not yet inducted in the National Junior Honor Society do not participate
in these activities. In addition, inducted 8th grade members may lose their eligibility if they
violate the requirements listed in question 2 or do not participate in the required projects
lead by Mrs. Heller and Mr. Wittmann.
Question: What if I'm in 6th grade?
It's never too early to start earning high grades. It's also important to continue making a
positive impact in all classes. If you show leadership, encourage and assist others, volunteer
at community events, and maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, there is a very
good chance you will be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society as a 7th grader.
