Dr. Takalo – Kolonel in die
SA Nasionale Weermag
Dit was in 2002 dat dr. Takalo die eerste keer in ’n lugmaghelikopter saam met
’n groep opvoeders en gemeenskapswerkers na Mpumalanga gevlieg het om
meer te wete te kom omtrent die werk van die SA Nasionale Weermag in
Mosambiek en die onstuimige Rwanda.



                                                  Deur so direk betrokke te raak in hierdie aangeleenthede het dr. Takalo besef hoe bevoorreg sy was. Terwyl ander mense hulle
                                                  lewens verloor het, in ballingskap geleef het en ontberings moes verduur het sy ’n normale bestaan gevoer.

                                                  Haar betrokkenheid in die lugmag was ’n geleentheid om iets terug te ploeg en om iets te doen om haar dankbaarheid te wys.
                                                  Sy het aansoek gedoen om ’n vrywilliger te word en in 2003 is sy deur die Minister van Verdediging, mnr. Patrick Lekota,
                                                  aangestel as ’n erekolonel in die SA Nasionale Weermag.

                                                  Tans is sy betrokke by die lugmagkollege, waar sy haar kennis en kundigheid deel met studente regoor die wêreld. As ’n klein
                                                  dogtertjie het sy haar oupa bewonder wat in sy uniform gemarsjeer het.

                                                  Vandag is dit haar begeerte om op haar beurt die jeug te inspireer om betrokke te raak en om deel te word van die proses

Dr Takalo - Colonel of the SA
Defence Force
It was during 2002 that Dr Takalo first flew in an Air Force helicopter with a
group of educators and community workers to Mpumalanga to find out about
the work of the SA Defence Force in Mozambique and the troubled Rwanda.




                                                  By coming so directly involved in these issues, Dr Takalo realised how fortunate she was. Whilst others lost their lives, lived in
                                                  exile and suffered deprivation, she was living a normal existence.

                                                  Her involvement with the Air Force was an opportunity to plough back and do something to express her gratitude. She applied
                                                  to become a voluntary worker and in 2003 was appointed Honorary Colonel in the SA Air Force by the Minister of Defence,
                                                  Patrick Lekota.

                                                  Currently she is involved at the Air Force College, where she shares her knowledge and expertise with students all over the
                                                  world. As a little girl she had admired her grandfather, marching in his uniform. Today she wishes in her turn to inspire the
