Renting
Car rental agencies have varying pricing policies and fee schedules. But, how can we as consumers choose the correct one? Today we will find out!
Why?
The charges are determined by a number of factors including size of the fleet available for rent, the kinds of cars for rent, the time of year, the length of the rental contract and so on.
Coupons
Each agency offers discount coupons that contain money saving offers. The coupons have codes that are entered on the reservation screens. The savings realized through coupons can be significant to a car renter.
Rate Miles vs. Set Costs
Some rental agencies will charge you a higher standard rate for the day, while others will charge a low standard rate plus costs per miles. Example $18.98 + 20 cents/mile.
Finding Rate Plus Costs per Mile
Carol rents a midsized car from Silverman-Rent-a-Car. This agency charges $23.00 + 20 cents per mile. What is the cost if Carol travels for 2 days and 260 miles?
Answer
CAREFUL
Be very careful when paying for a smaller daily fee + a cost for miles. Make sure you are not traveling for a long time with this option.
