AUGUST

Immunizations:
      Consult with secretarial staff regarding immunization questions
      Letters for new middle and high school students

Health Care Plans:
      Update Diabetic Care Plans
            Send update letter to parent,   get physician orders
      Update Care Plans for students with   delegated nursing tasks
            Gastrostomy tube, CIC, etc.
            Send update letter to parent,   get physician orders
      Update Care Plans for students with   Asthma
            Send update letter to parent,   get physician orders
      Update Care Plans for students with   Seizure Disorder
            Send update letter to parent,   get physician orders

Emergency Care Plans:
      Call parents with emergency health care plans for update
      Get physician orders
      Get Finalized Emergency Care Plans to Teachers, Bus Drivers, etc.

Staff Training:
      Designate and train staff on Epi-Pen Administration
Train staff for oral administration of medication
Train designated staff for GT care/feeding, CIC, etc.

Contractual Nursing Staff:
      Update contracts with nursing agencies for services to specific students

Health Room:
      Check supplies, procedures

Communication/Networking:
      Attend first faculty and staff meetings.
      Introduce nurse, staff, and plans for the year
      Send School Nurse introductory form to parents
      Attend PTA meeting(s)

Health Alerts
      Send annual letter for update to parents
      Review health alerts list
Check health cards


SEPTEMBER

Immunizations
Continue consultation to secretarial staff,    K-12

Vision and Hearing
      Identify and Train screening team
            Finalize schedule for vision/hearing and train team
            Paper work for screenings: classroom lists etc.
      Check/Calibrate screening equipment

First Aid/CPR Update
      Update list for first aid card carriers
      Identify first responders in each building
      Review policies/plans/procedures with designated building staff

Health Care Plans
      Finalize modifications of existing ones
      Continue to develop new ones


OCTOBER

Immunizations:
Continue consultation to secretarial staff,     K-12
      State report finished

Scoliosis:
State report for previous year, send to OSPI

Vision and Hearing:
      Continue with vision and hearing follow-up and referral

Dental Screening:
Community dental screenings in school start
            Attention school nurse advisory board mtg. OSPI

SNOW Conference:


NOVEMBER

Vision and Hearing:
      Continue with vision and hearing follow-up and referral
      Lion’s referrals

Communication/Networking:
      Eat lunch with faculty.
      Ongoing communication regarding specific students.


DECEMBER

Immunizations:
High school emphasis

Migrant Program
      Workshop to prepare for migrant physicals


JANUARY

Immunizations:
Preschool immunization status letter and exclusions end of Jan.
Migrant Program:
      Identify team and schedule physicals
      Set up Physicals
      Referrals and Follow-up

Scoliosis
Schedule for high school and middle schools

Vision and hearing:
Follow up and retest hearing.
Follow-up letters and phone calls


FEBRUARY

Immunizations:
State immunization report of preschool immunizations

Scoliosis:
Screening high school

Migrant Program:
      Referrals and Follow-up


MARCH

Immunizations:
Immunization clinic resource list reviewed
Paper work for 5th grade student middle school registrations prepared for
mailing. Inservice secretaries in how to in-put the new information into
computer system

 Scoliosis:
Schedule for elementary grades

Maturation Classes:
Provide and/or consult when needed in teaching human growth and development,
sexuality


SNOW Conference:


APRIL

Scoliosis:
    Screen elementary grades

Playground Safety:
    Review, make recommendations

Kindergarten Registration:

Staff training
    Train staff for field trip administration for medication.
    Make sure teachers remember to let us know about field trips,
especially if child needs Epi-Pen

Drug and Alcohol week activities:

Budget:
    Make recommendations


MAY

Immunizations:
    5th grade immunization letters and parent meetings
    Immunization status letters for new and conditional students
    Letter to graduating seniors to pick up a copy of their CIS form and for
      the need of a Tetanus booster possibly and a second MMR for college
      entrance
    Review our forms and parent letters(??)

Resource lists:
    Update and retype old forms
    Review policies and procedures as needed for board approval
    Arrange for audiometers to be calibrated and new vision equipment ordered
for next year if necessary
    Pull in all health books for updating
    Make sure teachers remember to let us know about field trips
especially if child needs Epi-Pen
    First aid kits updated.
    Kindergarten Registration


JUNE

Medications
    Letters to    parents with children on medication to pick up meds at end of
      year. Also   include the new medication request form for the doctor to fill
      out before   school starts.
    Medication    count completed for medications leaving school

Information Management:
    Compile medication and health room logs: file them for storage
    Archive “personal notes”
    Review Health Care Plans and Emergency Health Care Plans for next year
    Prepare plans to accompany students who will transfer to another building
    Clean out your files.

Be present in school buildings as much as possible

On-call for emergencies

Training, supervision and monitoring activities of school staff for:
Head checks on Thursday or Friday for head lice

      Work with school personnel to provide or to assist with health education
classes
