Taos Request Letter

June 4, 2008 Dear Cathy Connelly: Special Olympics New Mexico holds a golf tournament to raise money for our year-round sports training and athletic competitions benefiting children and adults with developmental disabilities. This year will mark our 10th annual tournament and will feature UNM Men’s basketball coach Steve Alford!! This year’s event kicks off with a live sports auction and silent auction which provide a major part of our revenue. This year’s auction will be held on Sunday, July 20th with the golf tournament being held the following day Monday, July 21st. Both days’ events will be at the Four Hills Country Club in Albuquerque. We have confirmed "A Day of Skiing with Olympic Skier Phil Mahre" as one of the items in the Sports Auction and are working to secure Taos as the location for this once in a lifetime opportunity! In trying to create a Taos Ski Valley package, we are hoping to find items such as gift certificates to local restaurants, lodging, ski apparel and equipment, etc…in order to make this a hot item at the auction. We are appreciative of your consideration and we know you are asked often. It is our hope that the personal satisfaction you receive from helping Special Olympics athletes and their families is as much a reward to you as it is a life-changing benefit to them. Special Olympics New Mexico serves over 2,400 athletes statewide with a volunteer base of approximately 6,000. The money raised by our golf tournament and auction directly benefits our athletes, their families, and our committed coaches. But more importantly, it creates a meaningful opportunity for more athletes and their coaches to experience the joy of sport and the celebration it brings to all who are involved.
