Disaster Recovery for Emergency Services and Business Continuity Workshop
Sponsored by Globecomm
As a turn-key satellite solutions provider, Globecomm is well versed in leveraging satellite and
terrestrial communications as a viable means of providing back-up communications during times
of disaster recovery and or critical incident response for both Government organizations and
commercial enterprises in times of emergency to restore critical communications.
09:30 am: Disaster recovery emergency planning overview. Concept and need for Disaster
Recovery verses Business Continuity. Immediate need and deployment of ground
communications using satellite back haul and Distributed networking concepts
First 24/48 hours, need for emergency communications for medical, fire, police,
and other critical personnel. The session will cover the need for logistics and
communication planning. Followed by a 48/96 hours plan to extend the service
coverage area as needed and begin restoral and connectivity to local communications
networks.
10:45 am to 11:00 am Coffee / Tea break
11:00 am: Technologies that provide mobile, terrestrial & satellite service solutions, necessary
to provide instant communications on the ground. Wireless handsets, satellite phones,
portable towers, generators, spare batteries, charging systems. The need for logistics,
plus on the ground and remote hosted and managed service support. Examples used
by various carriers and government agencies.
12:15 pm to 1:15 pm Lunch
1:15 pm: Case Studies;
1. State of California, Satellite equipment and laptops, housed in a trailer, connected to
Globecomm’s Internet distribution channels provide victims and relief agencies
including FEMA and the Red Cross with communications otherwise destroyed by
wildfires. Over 500,000 people fled the wildfires, which destroyed over 1,400 homes.
2. Home Depot. Globecomm provides services for their Business Network. In the
devastation of Hurricane Katrina, re-storing voice and data communications to thirty
Home Depot locations in the Southeast United States was critical to business restoral,
allowing the flow of supply chain orders for urgently needed building materials to
continue with the absence of terrestrial communications.
3. New York City. Following the September 11 terrorist attacks on America,
Globecomm collaborated with the New York State Technology Enterprise
Corporation (NYSTEC) to deploy Disaster Recovery Communications Systems to a
New York hospital that had been without data communication lines since the collapse
of the World Trade Center towers.
2:30 to 2:45 pm Coffee / Tea break
2:45 pm: Business restoral.
4:00 pm: A Business Continuity Insurance plan that provides disaster recovery, technology,
logistics, restoring communications and revenue. Industry concepts and drivers as well
as choosing the right technology for service. The human side of recovery and
communications planning. Business Continuity Planning for you and your members.
Examples and input from Agility.
