                News from the Sports Sections

BOWLS
December 2010 at 7:30pm. Tickets are R90 per person, and include a
mouth-watering 3 course meal, pleasant wine, enthralling live entertainment,
celebrity guest speaker and hilarious compère. Tickets are on sale and can
be purchased from Karen Kührau.

It would be kindly appreciated if you could bring a gift suitable for children
aged 3 to 11, wrapped and clearly marked with an M (male) or F (female)
and the age. These gifts will be donated to a suitable children’s charity.

PERSONAL TRUST ‘RED AND WHITE’ TRIPS: WEDNESDAY 15
DECEMBER

Come down for an afternoon of fun on Wednesday 15 December at the
Personal Trust “Red and White” Trips. Tea and snacks will be served.

There is a list on the notice board, so enter your team. Remember to dress
in red and white and wear a funny hat. There will be prizes for the best-
dressed team, the funniest hat and the winners.

CLUB “HAPPY HOUR”

It is our turn to host the “Happy Hour” on Friday 3 December. Please come
down and support us and bring something for the table.

LEAGUE CRICKET

All sides are currently in good log positions, so a win in the final league
match before the Christmas break will see WPCC teams sitting pretty in the
top four positions. The 1 day competition starts on Saurday 11 December
with two 1 day games before the break on 18 December.

R20 000 DRAW

The R20K draw is just 4 days away, so we hope that all members have got
their tickets. The draw will start from 8pm onwards, with the winner walking
away with R20 000 at the end of the night. You don’t have to be there to win
the prize, just keep your phone on, and we will call you!

CRICKET SUN HATS

The section has got Club sun hats for all section members for the hot
summer we are expecting. They are available from Bradley Seconds at R80
each. Please come through to the Club, or contact me via e mail at
bradleys@wpcc.co.za

The section's next Happy Hour is scheduled for Friday 17 December, so all
players to get up to the pub - and support the bar and with prizes.

PRIZE GIVING

The annual prize giving will take place on Sunday 5 December at 14h30,
WPCC Sports Centre. Ave de Mist. The prize giving is now held in
December, which although not the end of the season is the end of the age
group before the cricketers move up. This is a compulsory function.

As this is the last event of the year we like to make it a celebration of the
years cricket so we ask the parents to contribute. Your child’s manager will
coordinate the contributions but each group will be asked to bring the
following:

Mini Cricket: Refreshments (Juice and cool drinks)
Under 10: Chips
Under 11: Biscuits
Under 12/13: Cup cakes Koeksusters
Under 14: Samoosas
Under 15/17: Sausage rolls, cocktail sausages
Under 19: Cakes

THE R20,000 DRAW
The R20,000 Draw will be held on Friday 3rd December. Please support
this fundraising as the money collected contributes to the running of the
cricket section. Last year the funds collected contributed to the purchase of a
bowling machine, a cover for the Colin de Jager field and hiring of extra fields
for junior matches.

Tickets are available from your child’s manager or Winston Travis on Friday
afternoon.

RUNNING

MEDICAL 10 RACE - Sunday 5 December

The running section organises the Medical 10 which is a run for the medical
fraternity run from the Sports Centre every year. The event brings in a much
needed financial boost for the section. It is been run this Sunday and I am
looking for members to assist as marshals on the day. The race starts at
06:30 and you will be finished by 08:00. If you are able to assist please drop
me an e-mail or phone on 072 400 0046. Breakfast will be supplied

HAPPY HOUR

The running section will be hosting the final happy hour of the year on the 10
Dec. We intend making this a bumper event, as only the running section can
do, and urge all of you to visit the Club, enjoy a drink or two at discounted
prices, and stand a chance of winning some fantastic prizes.

THURSDAY TIME TRIAL

The time trial starts at 17h45 from the runners tap at the entrance to the
sports centre every Thursday of the year and is open to all whether you are a
member of the running section or not.

SQUASH

League applications have gone in for the 2011 season, so before we know it
we will be in to the new year and starting to get in to shape for the new
league season. There are some events on the horizon, that may interest
you.

Mark Allen is running summer camps for the youth players, throughout the
holiday period. These will run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays,
commencing on Tuesday the 14th of December. If anyone youth players are
keen to participate, or if any parents want to enrol their kids, please contact
Mark directly on markallensquash@gmail.com for further information.

Summer league is kicking off on the 19th of January, and Duncan Brett and
his band of merry men have a number of different themed evenings to
entertain us in January. If you are keen to participate in Summer League,
please enter by sending an email to
summerleague@researchlamppost.co.za with your name, email address,
league level and contact number. The cost is R165 for three weeks of
summer league which includes some kit, squash, entertainment and 3 great
evenings with dinner.

Mark Allen will be running pre-season training in the new year, much like we
did this year. Keep your eye out at the courts for notices of when this will be
taking place, as places are limited and last year it filled up fast.

There will be social tennis followed by a “Bring & Braai” at the courts on
