What Is An Adult Family Home?
   An adult family home is a supportive living arrangement which provides assistance, supervision and individualized care to three
or four adults who are unable to live independently but do not require institutional or nursing home care. Care is provided in family
settings which are the primary residence of the foster sponsors. Case management is provided by a social worker for the foster adult
and works with the foster sponsor to develop an agreement which identifies the needs of the foster adult. The goal of the foster
sponsor and the social worker is to assist the foster adult to learn new skills or maintain skills which help him/her develop a
maximum level of independence.

Who Would Benefit From An Adult Family Home?
 Individuals who are unable to live independently and do not need a structured care setting such as a nursing home.

What Services Are Provided?
  The basic necessities of room and board are provided in the home. Foster sponsors may also provide direct supervision and
assistance with medication, bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, laundry, housekeeping information and referral and heath
monitoring. Other supportive agencies may also provide some of the above services for additional fees.

How Do I Pay For Services?
  Payments for care can come from a variety of resources including personal funds and public funding if a person is eligible. The
foster sponsor and social worker can assist with the financial arrangements.

What Do I Look For When Touring An Adult Family Home:
 Be sure to see a bedroom and note the spaciousness for personal items. Observe the other foster adults and note their cleanliness,
mood and interaction with the adult foster family. Note the cleanliness and overall aesthetics of the home.

What Is The Credibility Of Adult Family Homes?
  The adult family homes are licensed and monitored by the State of Wisconsin. You can contact the Wisconsin Department of
Health and Family Services at 1-608-266-3681 to determine the reputation of a particular adult family home.
