In the battle arena of boxing heavyweight is a sub division/weight class, in boxing. Boxers who weight over 200 pounds are considered to be the heavyweight boxers by the major boxing organizations. Like the International Boxing Organization, the World Boxing Association, the World Boxing Council, and the World Boxing Organization. Heavyweight boxing has no certain weight limits as it has been historically defined. During the 19th century, many heavyweight champions weighed 170 pounds or less. But in 1920, the minimum weight for a heavyweight boxing was set at 175 pounds which today is considered the light heavyweight division maximum. Now for the most boxing organizations, the maximum weight limit is 200 pounds. So a boxer whose weight is over 200 lb may not fight as anything but a heavyweight. Who was the first heavyweight champion was it is impossible to say with absolute certainty. The sport of boxing is ancient and as recorded history and there have always been large boxers. James Figg is most often referred to as the first champion of organized boxing. There were other champions as well in that era. Slave Tom Molineaux, Tom Cribb, Jack Slack, Jem Belcher, Ben Caunt and Jem Mace are among the some of the most notable heavyweight champions. In these days it should also be noted that this title has been damaged by various organizations, as traditionally what was known as the single Heavyweight Champion is now called as the Undisputed Champion. Historically, according to the Marquess of Queensberry rules, the 1st champion was John Sullivan, also known as Boston Strong Boy His weight was around 200 pounds when in shape as he was a bare-knuckle champion. Later he was defeated by Jim Corbett on September 7, 1892, in 21 rounds. In 19th century the boxing champions were recognized by the public acclamation. A fighter in that era would be a champion who had a notable win over another boxer and kept winning afterward. Retirements of the boxer or any disputed results could lead to a championship being split among several men of time. This amazing sports division has always been and will always be the glamour division of the sport ... but it's kind of a mess in these days. Lennox Lewis was the undisputed boxing champion but he retired. Then Vitali Klitschko seemed to be on his way to becoming the boxing hero but later he retired too for nearly four years. More or less all the top boxing fighters in this sport are floating in lower weight categories. The big focus of financers and attention of media continue on the big boys. Accordingly, it seems appropriate to have an in-depth look at who's famous in today's heavyweight boxing division and rank them according to their levels. There are plenty of sports magazines and web sites which are giving their top ten. Moreover, if you really love this sport, then top ten is definitely not enough. So there should be the list of top heavyweight fighting champs around the globe today. The debate should begin on the selection of world boxing champs.
