Preparing Butterfly Wings for Embroidery and Jewellery

Making holes in laminated butterfly wings is easy. It's just a matter of how many you would like!

   1) If the wing is to used as an earring, you probably only need one hole to
attach a jump ring. (Unless you are doing something creative!)

                    2) For embroidery work, I usually make three holes to stitch
                       the wing down securely.

   3) If you plan to overlap the edges with beads, sequins, or other
embellishments, just two holes is adequate for securing the edges of the
       wing.

   4) To pierce a hole, lay the butterfly wing on some soft fabric for padding. Using a large
darning needle (or a small leather needle), press firmly until the needle comes through.
Easy! Repeat for as many holes as needed.
