                   OPERA QUEENSLAND’S SEASON OF
                    MADAMA BUTTERFLY SELLS OUT

With the overwhelming support of Queensland audiences,
                                      Opera Queensland's production of Puccini's much-loved
opera Madama Butterfly has sold out its seven-performance
                                      season.

The additional seventh performance was announced only
two weeks ago due to public demand. Rave opening night
reviews and word-of-mouth ensured the small number of
remaining tickets sold quickly. This much-anticipated
production made its Queensland première on Saturday,
May 19 in the Lyric Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts
                                      Centre at 7.30pm.

Opera Queensland is delighted that this production will be
enjoyed by many Opera First-timers as a result of a
collaborative campaign with QPAC to introduce Queensland
audiences to this dramatic artform. Opera First-timers will
join fellow Queenslanders in witnessing the magnificent
voices, spectacular sets and costumes, full orchestra and
chorus that make Madama Butterfly one of the most popular
and accessible operas of all time.
                                      .
Directed by the award-winning Moffatt Oxenbould, this production, never before seen in
Queensland was sure to capture the hearts and minds of new and seasoned opera-goers.

With Ukrainian soprano Oksana Dyka and American tenor Jerry Hadley making their Australian
debuts as Cio-Cio-San and Pinkerton respectively, and esteemed English Maestro Peter
Robinson leading the Opera Queensland Chorus and The Queensland Orchestra, Opera
Queensland’s 2007 season has commenced on a high.

Queensland audiences will be spoilt for choice in July when Opera Queensland presents the
enchanting opera by Engelbert Humperdinck, Hansel and Gretel, in the Conservatorium Theatre,
South Bank for 11 performances from 7 July, and a collaborative production as part of the
