Fuels Handling Consultant, - animal by products. Working with UK government agencies
advising on technical aspects of storage, handling and incineration of 285kt of tallow derived
from the Over Thirty Months Scheme which was set up as an infection control measure
during the BSE crisis. Advisory work covered out loading and cleaning the storage tanks,
preparation of risk assessments for workers safety during clean down and tank repairs,
product change to jet fuel and preparation of commercial data on tank hire scenarios and

Independent Power Corporation plc. (IPC) 2005 - 06
On behalf of IPC developed, tendered and placed a contract under NEC terms for
dismantling, packing and shipping 9 x 2MW Jenbacher generating sets to Bolivia. Set up the
UK operation for preparation of documentation, dismantling and despatch. At the outset
prepared an economic assessment to justify the dismantling project.

Welsh European Funding Office. 2005
Technical due diligence on Western Bioenergy’s 13.8 MWe biomass project. Review of the
project implementation plan and operational budgets against current UK experience on
similar plant. Prepared detailed cost information for a revision of economic projections based
on a realistic plant availability forecast. The plant is now in operation.
Synxx Energy Canada. 2004 - 06
Assistance with developing a US entrained flow biomass gasification technology for a
commercial project in the UK. Review of pilot plant in the US and fuel handling systems
design. Development of fuel supply contracts and secured a project site in the UK. The
technology was determined insufficiently proven and the development company collapsed.

Sewage sludge–biomass incineration co-firing study. Key industry contributor to a major DTI
study with Thames Water and Severn Trent. Responsible for plant estimating and economic
modelling of multiple biomass conversion technologies.
Organic Power Ltd. 2003-04
Design and constructability advisory services for a novel floating anaerobic digester system.
Investigation of anticipated dynamic behaviour of the floating structures.
Fibrowatt Ltd. 1991- 2003
Technical co-founder of the Fibrowatt group which is now owned by Energy Power Resources
Ltd. (EPRL). Technical development, project management and operation of the Fibropower
and Fibrogen biomass waste fired power plants (12.5MWe and 13.5MWe) the worlds first
fuelled by poultry litter and the UK’s first non-recourse financed renewable energy project.
These plants presented a steep learning curve with a new fuel in a new industry.
Developed the operating organisation, recruited the operating team and with assistance of the
contractor carried out initial training. Set up a management system and procedures for the
entire plant operations as well as ongoing training and development. Implemented a
maintenance management system with focus on equipment history and RCM techniques.
Main board director with P&L operational responsibility for ten years, managing plant
operations, ash to fertiliser production and marketing and also operation of the similar
Fibrothetford mixed biomass plant (38.5MW). The three plants handle in excess of 650kt per
year of biomass and agricultural waste fuels.
Set up and managed a project contract with the UK Government Intervention Board to
destroy 185 kt of Cat 1 meat and bone meal arising from the BSE crisis. The project included
a £7m plant conversion to 100% meat and bone meal hazardous waste firing. Tasks included
risk assessments on handling and maintenance operations as well as dealing with concerns

of the workforce and public stemming from potential for cjd infection. The complex 3-year
project was executed on time and on budget.
Carried out technical and commercial assessment of small scale biomass gasification
technologies in UK and Europe for an energy crop fuelled project using multiple 500kwe
Foster Wheeler UK 1985-1991
Project Engineer for a major refinery infrastructure management services contract, author of
management procedures, setting up the organisation structure and recruiting staff.
Subsequently, project development manager for CCGT and waste incineration projects.
Feasibility work on Thames Water Crossness and Beckton sewage sludge incineration
projects. Won a contract for FW with Thames Water for the refurbishment of the main pipe
work and pumping plant at Hampton water treatment works.
Ewbank Preece 1980-1985
.Owners project engineer for procurement and installation of four waste heat boiler and
22,500 tpa desalination retrofits on frame 9 gas turbines within an operational 1000MW power
plant for Ministry of Electricity and Water Qatar. Developed the specifications using in house
expertise, issued tenders, negotiated and let contracts, on site for constrcution.
Royal Navy 1965–1980
Marine Engineer officer. Initially trained as a Radio Electrical Artificer, subsequently
commissioned and Charge Qualified as a Marine Engineer Officer. Officer training at BRNC
Dartmouth. Service in HM Ships. Rank on leaving, Lieutenant. Last deployment, Charge
Engineer in an aircraft carrier.
