11 NATIONAL GOLF CROQUET HANDICAP TOURNAMENT
Perth 9 - 13 October 2010
Welcome by the ACA President
Welcome to the inaugural Golf Croquet Handicap Event held in Perth. This event has proven very popular
in the past and we hope that this trend will continue. The combined event was first staged in 2000 and the
list of winners is impressive.
The Australian Croquet Association is well aware of the efforts needed to stage these events and we are
grateful to the West Australian Croquet Association (WACA) and the clubs concerned in agreeing to hold
the event this year. We also thank the playing members of those clubs who give up their courts for the
event.
Planning for and organising these events is to say the least a time consuming task and many people
contribute to that task. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to those who have
devoted such a lot of their free time to arrange this year’s event. In particular I would like to thank the
ACA Tournament Committee together with the WACA officials involved for their efforts.
As you are well aware the popularity of Golf Croquet has increased over the years. No longer is it only the
game that we played to loosen up while we waited for the real event to begin. It has become a well -
established competition in its own right. Golf Croquet players and enthusiasts will be watching this event
with interest to gauge how it measures up with previous years and I am sure they will not be disappointed.
There can be only one winner but I wish you all the best and hope you enjoy the competition and the
camaraderie it develops.
Max Murray
President, Australian Croquet Association.
Welcome from the President of the Western Australian Croquet Association
The Western Australian croquet community welcomes players and officials to Perth for the 2010 National
Golf Croquet Handicap Tournament.
It is an honour for WACA to host this tournament, WA’s first National golf Croquet Event, and we are
pleased that so many players will also be playing in a National event for the first time.
My thanks goes to the organisers and officials who work with players to run the event. Their time and
effort is much appreciated.
We trust that you enjoy the healthy competition and on-lawn rivalry and that you find your participation in
the 2010 Golf Croquet Handicap Tournament is rewarding.

expected to commence play in the second and third games immediately after the completion of the
previous game. It is mandatory for players to inform the Tournament or Venue Manager should
they wish to leave a venue for any reason.
9. The Tournament Manager will decide whether play in any match should continue in bad weather.
10. Referees will generally be on call in terms of Rule 15 (b) (2).

for seeding purposes. The format for the Handicap Singles is as follows.

same State evenly spread between blocks. Each player to play other players in the block in a
single 13 point game.
b) Based on games and then net points, four players from each block will proceed to the knockout
finals phase of the event. If players are still tied then the players concerned will play a 13 point

Rule 16 – Hoops in Extra Turns
19. It has been apparent for some time that lower handicapped players have a better than even chance
of winning under the conditions of Rule 16(d): "No point may be scored for the striker's side in an
extra turn". Canada has deleted this condition from the Rule for two years with better results, and
New Zealand intends that their entire 2010/2011 season will be conducted by deleting Rule 16(d).
As a trial, this tournament will be conducted with Rule 16(d) deleted in order to provide more data
and to determine the effect under Australian conditions. It is expected that higher handicap players
will then have a more equal chance of success. Results from this trial will be evaluated, in
cooperation with New Zealand, to determine whether there should be a permanent change to the
Rule. Australian Handicap cards will still be used for all singles games.
