Class Fee: $10.00, must be paid by Sept 2, 2010 or student will not be cooking in the lab.

Course Description: Nutrition and Food is a beginning course designed to address nutrition and personal
lifestyle. Content emphasis includes food safety and sanitation, food preparation techniques, meal
management skills, consumer skills, etiquette, nutrition, health, and career options in nutrition and related
fields.
Content Standards:
     1. Evaluate factors affecting individual and family food choices
     2. Analyze nutrition, health and wellness practices across the life span
     3. Employ food laboratory management techniques
     4. Demonstrate the management of food and resources for individuals and families
     5. Demonstrate the preparation of nutritious foods for individuals and families
     6. Analyze career options within nutrition, foods, and related fields.

Instructional Materials: Books, Worksheets, Students workbooks, videos, Kitchen equipment, lab preparation
pages, computers, internet, etc.

Instructional Methods: Discussion, demonstrations, group work, guest speakers, projects, readings, labs, etc

   -Due one day after returning to class

GRADING SCALE: 100%-90% = A; 89%-80% = B; 79%-70% = C; 69%-60% = D
Grades of Complete=points recorded, I=incomplete, M=missing, or L=late will be recorded on Powerschool.
Late work will be given ½ credit. Missing work will be given a 0 at the end of the trimester.

Make-up or missed labs:
The student must obtain recipe and a home cooking report from the teacher. Missed labs must be made up at
home and the student must provide the needed ingredients for the recipe.
