Honey bees for beekeeping are a fun filled pastime. This hobby is good for the
environment. The bees are necessary to one of the most essential function of
pollination. They are fast and quick touching thousands of plants in a short period of
time. Of course the smell, flavor and taste of fresh home made honey is your reward.
The honey is essentially food for the honey bees themselves. It is not for human
consumption they work hard and gather honey. It is for them especially in winter
when the flowers bloom less and very small quantities for honey are available for
beekeeping.
When the bloom is good like in summer, they do gather more than enough for them.
The left over honey is what we humans collect and enjoy. There is plenty to go around!
The honey bees do send a signal through capping their cells when it is full. Then the
beekeeper goes around harvesting this. We may even make some money after we
enjoy for ourselves.
The bees are one of the busiest creatures on the earth. They constantly hum and fly
around most of the time with little or no rest. They do pay for this with their short life
span. Most bees get tired and die after about forty days.
Beekeeping implements many ways to collect honey from the hives. The honey is
basically in combs or frames. The frame honey is liquid and can be collected through
special equipment like the extractor by centrifuge system. If you are using the top-bar
hives used in Africa then you can collect comb honey. This is in their wax combs
which the honey bees have created.
Comb honey is not suitable for many cooking purposes. But there are people who
prefer and enjoy this flavor and smell for tea or even just eat it.
Honey frown in different parts of the world give out varieties of texture, smell, color
and flavor. The quality of honey depends on the soil around that area which gives rise
to different plants at different regions of the world. That is why the quality and
character changes. The soil and climate also determine what types of plants grow in
that condition. So in beekeeping the type of honey is very much depended on nectar
of the flowers.
If you are serious about selling honey there are FDC regulations for honey since it is
considered a food item. Make sure you read and follow the guidelines. There are also
local procedures you need to find out and follow.
Like any other business if your beekeeping with honey bees is involved in selling
you have to be good at marketing to make good money out of it.
This is one of most enjoyable hobbies but also can be turned into a profitable
business. Many farmers do this because it goes well with farming. The land is vast,
separated from neighbors and it pollinates the area. Above all the farmer can have
multiple units and can make a very profitable and large amount of cash with
