                             A Journey to the Lost City of the Inca




 Grading
 Tough. All participants should be physically fit and capable of walking for several hours a day
 on steep and rough terrain

 This trek is available between April and October inclusive.

 Length of Challenge
 This trek is a 9 day trek

 Summary
 Follow in the footsteps of early 20th century explorers, as we cross the high Andes from the
 bustling colonial town of Cusco to the breathtaking ruins of Machu Picchu. During our six day
 trek we’ll pass through many different terrains and ecosystems, before we reach the fabled
 Machu Picchu. After the trek you have the option to return home or to extend your trip and
 take in some of the many adventure travel excursions on offer in Peru.


                                              Trip Itinerary

 17th September:
 We will depart the UK late afternoon for our overnight flight to Lima.

 18th September:
 We will arrive early morning into Lima International and transfer to the domestic terminal to
 catch our domestic flight to Cusco. Our tour guide will meet us at Cusco Airport and we’ll
 transfer to our hotel. There will be a short briefing and the afternoon can be spent as free
 time to acclimatize to our new altitude of 3400m. Dinner and overnight in Cusco.

 19th September:
 Today is an acclimatization day in Cusco. There is an optional walking tour of the city and in
 the afternoon an option tour to the Sacred Valley. Dinner and overnight in Cusco.

 20th September:
         We’ll be picked up from our hotel and depart very early morning for Marcojasa, a
 4hr drive. We start our hike from here following the path along the aqueduct to Soraypampa
 with a picnic lunch en-route. Depending on the pace of our group, we’ll arrive into our
 campsite at Soraypampa in the late afternoon. Here we’ll have dinner and overnight in our
 tented accommodation.

 21st September:
          After breakfast we will depart on a long and tough ascent towards the Salkantay
 Mountain Pass at an altitude of 4650m. The views as we walk will be spectacular, with the
 looming hulk of the sacred mountain Nevado Salkantay dominating the glaciated valley
 through which we’ll pass. Lunch will be taken just after the highpoint of the pass before we
 make a slow descent down to Wayraqmachay arriving mid afternoon. Dinner and overnight
 will be in our tented accommodation at Wayraqmachay.

 22nd September
         After breakfast we’ll enjoy a leisurely downhill hike to Wiñaypocco arriving early
 afternoon. We’ll take lunch at Collpapampa and we’ll arrive into our campsite early
 afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Wiñaypocco.

 23rd September:
         After breakfast we’ll continue down the Santa Teresa Valley, taking our lunch at
 Lucmabamba. After lunch it is a steep 3-hour ascent to our campsite at Paltallaqta. From
 these famous Inca ruins we’ll have fantastic views out over the Santa Teresa Valley and
 across to Machu Picchu and the Urubamba and the Vilcabamba mountain ranges.

 24th September
         After breakfast we’ll descend down into the Aobamba valley. From here it’s a short
 hike up to the hydroelectric plant where we’ll sign into Machu Picchu National Park. We’ll
 trek along the rail tracks through semi-jungle, following the route for around 3-hrs with a
 picnic lunch en-route. Arrival into Aguas Calientes in the early afternoon. Dinner and
 overnight in our tented accommodation at Aguas Calientes.

 25th September:
            We’ll wake for a very early breakfast and set off for Machu Picchu mountain whilst
 it’s still dark. The ascent will be steep and we’ll arrive at the ruins in time for sunrise. We’ll
 ascend the Machu Picchu Mountain offering spectacular views down to the ruins site. There
 will be a guided tour of Machu Picchu before we return to camp for a hot lunch. After lunch
 we’ll visit the famous hot springs of Aguas Calientes, the perfect way to finish off this
 magnificent trek. We’ll take the train back to Cusco arriving mid-evening for hot showers and
 celebration dinner.

 26th September:
         After breakfast depart back to Cusco Airport for our flight back up to Lima. We’ll
 transfer directly to the international terminal for our return international flights.

 27th September:
         Arrival into the UK in the morning.
