Portugal might be a small country in corner of Europe, but it has many attractions and
tourists come here every year. With an opening to the Atlantic Ocean, it has many
wonderful beaches. An area reputed for its golden beaches, sparkling sand and cool
breeze is Algarve, a beautiful region in the South of Portugal, visited yearly by
thousands of tourists that come to enjoy the ocean, the weather and the strand here. A
famous beach is Praia da Marinha (Benagil/Carvoeiro), who was awarded the Golden
Flag standard for beaches, due to its beauty and seclusion that turn it into a good quiet
getaway from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
If we started talking about beaches, let’s go on with the same topic. Described by
many as the picture-postcard beach, Dona Ana (Lagos) beach is truly astonishing.
Perfect for the fun-seeking tourists. If you want to have fun doing water sports or you
just like being active, the best place for you would be Ilha de Tavira beach in Tavira.
Besides swimming, jogging on the beach or just walking around, you can play water
polo here. One of the longest beaches in Algarve is Meia Praia beach in Lagos, also
centre of many water sports and ideal for sun bathing. It’s popular among tourists and
you’ll find it full of the usual bustle and bikini clad ladies.
Another beautiful beach can be found in the city of Albufeira - Praia da Oura. It’s
famous among old knowing tourists, that always come here if they want to spend their
vacation within a beautiful scenery. This beach, with its marvelous yellow sandstones,
is quite a view. In the same city of Albufeira there is Praia dos Barcos, sought by the
more adventurous, as they can fish in the deep blue waters. A familiar image here is
represented by the many colourful fishing boats that adorn the place.
A vacation in Portugal is a great way to relax and top up on that delicious tan of
yours. The prices of travelling to Portugal is pretty cheap, specially in May and
September, outside the main holiday season.
