NO. : IEM08 / HQ / 116 / F Background Efficient use of energy (or Energy efficiency – EE) in Malaysia has been a national policy objective in several Malaysia Plans but has not been widely achieved for various reasons, a key reason being the low, heavily subsidized prices of energy. The Malaysian government has provided attractive incentives to encourage adoption of EE initiatives but their impact has been minimal. This paper concentrates on electricity use and addresses the various reasons for the lack of success. It assesses the economic impact of not using energy efficiently, identifies options and recommends mechanisms to successfully encourage adoption of initiatives for efficient use of energy. The Position paper Committee had 7 meetings to discuss and deliberate relevant issues and has prepared a draft Position Paper for public comment prior to its formal release by IEM. You are therefore cordially invited to the Forum, which will be held as follows:-
