The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia TALK ON “BUSINESS CONTINUITY/DISASTER RECOVERY - TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND RECOVERY STRATEGIES” (Organised by Information Technology Special Interest Group, IEM) th BEM Approved CPD / PDP HOURS: 2 Date Time Venue Speaker Synopsis : : : : Ref No: 5 June 2008 (Thursday) IEM08//HQ/133/T 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm (refreshment will be served at 5.00 pm) 2nd Floor, IEM Conference Hall, Bangunan Ingenieur, Petaling Jaya Mr. Lai Boon Wah (Kompakar CRC Sdn Bhd) The speaker will initially examine the fundamental reasons why there is a need for Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Planning and the types of business interruptions/disasters together with some overseas and local statistics presented. The BC/DR trends are analysed and then followed by presentation of the cost components and the spending patterns by companies, including some survey results. As most businesses today are heavily dependent on Information Technology (IT) to conduct business operation and transactions, various strategies addressing the specific requirements of the business entities to recover IT systems/applications, hardware servers, databases and networks in the event of disaster or any interruption are also discussed. Biodata of Speaker Mr. Lai Boon Wah is currently the Senior BCP Consultant / Project Manager of Kompakar CRC Sdn Bhd. And he has 20 years of working experience in the ICT industry. In addition to being a certified Project Manager with the credential of Project Management Professional (PMP) by Project Management Institute (PMI), Mr. Lai also passed the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRI International)’s Certified Business Continuity Professional’s Certification Examination. Mr. Lai is also a full time business continuity professional providing a wide array of business continuity services ranging from project management, business impact analysis, developing IT and business recovery strategies, both BCP and IT DRP Plan design and development, right through to plans testing/exercising/maintenance.
