Executors are the people you appoint to carry out your wishes when you die (minimum of 1,
maximum of 4) e.g. your spouse or partner but if they have also died, a substitute person.
An executor can be a trusted friend, family member or a legal/professional adviser. Your
executor should be a trustworthy and knowledgeable individual. If you have young children, the
executors look after the children’s money/property as executors also act as trustees for any
children benefiting from the will.

                                         Inheritance Tax
Inheritance tax is the tax on your assets when you die. This is calculated by considering the
assets, which you owned at the time of your death less any liabilities (i.e. gas bills, income tax
etc).
There are rules as to whether the value of lifetime gifts are taken into account. If you have
made lifetime gifts please contact us.
Lifetime gifts made within 7 years of death (there are exceptions such as, small gifts o £250,
annual gifts of up to £3,000) will be taken into account.
Most gifts between husband and wife are exempt from inheritance tax.
Inheritance Tax is charged at nil percent on the first £312,000 of a person’s estate. Thereafter
it is charged at 40 %

                                         Tax Planning
Without proper tax planning, many people can end up leaving a substantial tax liability on their
death, considerably reducing the value of the estate passing to chosen beneficiaries.
