A Map Key helps us locate geographical features on a map.

North America is located in the Northern and Western Hemispheres.

The cardinal directions are North, South, East, and West.

The intermediate directions are Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest.

The oceans are Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic, and Indian.

The imaginary line that divides the globe into Eastern and Western Hemispheres is called
the Prime Meridian.

The imaginary line that divides the globe into Northern and Southern Hemispheres is
called the Equator.

Lines that run from east to west are called parallels of latitude.

Latitude and longitude lines are measured in degrees.

Longitude lines come together at the north and south poles.

A map scale measures distance.

A drawing that shows where north, south, east, and west are located is called a compass
rose.

The world can be divided into 4 hemispheres.

The seven continents are North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa,
and Antarctica. Be able to locate the oceans and the continents on a world map.

Be able to recognize a map scale, a map key, and a compass rose (cardinal and
ordinal and intermediate directions).

States that border Virginia are Maryland, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and
