Our History

Federal Express officially began operations on April 17, 1973, with the launch of 14
small aircraft from Memphis International Airport delivering 186 packages to 25 U.S.
cities from Rochester, NY, to Miami, Fla.
In 1994 Federal Express officially adopted "FedEx" as its primary brand, taking a cue
from its customers, who frequently referred to the company by the shortened name and
used the term as a verb: "FedEx" a package, meaning "to send an overnight shipment."

FedEx began operations in the Middle East in 1989 when its regional headquarters and
gateway facility were established in Dubai, the regional office for FedEx in the Middle
East, Indian sub-continent and Africa.
In 1991, FedEx began direct serve operations in Kuwait and Bahrain.
