Lesson Title: The March of the Penguins

Subject: Science- 4th Grade

Brief description of Lesson (1 paragraph):
    TLW view the “Film Quest” PowerPoint.
    TLW watch the March of the Penguins and gather information about a penguin’s life in
       Antarctica on a note-taking guide.
    TLW create a guide for survival (a “last lecture”) for a young penguin, including a rough map
       of the ecosystems of Antarctica, a list of dangerous situations that he might face and how to
       overcome them (weather/climate, predators, etc.), and a guide for travels (marching),
       meeting basic needs (ie; eating), and caring for his own young.
    TLW present the “last lecture” to the class.

illustrates interdependence (SE-E-A1)
50. Explain how some organisms in a given habitat compete for the same resources (LS-E-C1)

    “Film Quest” powerPoint
    Copy of movie, March of the Penguins
    Note-taking guide (two choices: more detailed or less detailed)
    Blank map of Antarctica
    Materials/software for “Last Lecture” project
