3. Formatted text and autoformatted table
4. Create an embedded chart comparing the data in the table

CTE TECHNICAL STANDARDS ADDRESSED: Information Support and Services Pathway
A7.1 Know common industry-standard software and its applications.

2.5 Use a variety of methods, such as words, numbers, symbols, charts, graphs, tables, diagrams,
and models, to explain mathematical reasoning.

MATERIALS: Textbook that provides instruction on Spreadsheet (i.e. Microsoft Office XP) or
handout of problem if textbook is not available, Spreadsheet software

MOTIVATION/OPENER: Review of Chart and the information conveyed in chart.
Questions to ask to determine understanding of chart data:
 Name the locations of stores represented in the chart?
 What color represents the sales of cassettes?
 What color represents the sales of compact disks?
 Approximately how much money did the Denver store make on the sale of vintage vinyls?
 Approximately how much money did the Chicago store make on the sale of cassettes?

PRESENTATION: (Teacher Activities)
1. Using Visions (or other capture software program), capture all computer stations
2. Demonstrate how to open Excel
3. Show how to insert data into worksheet
4. Open worksheet which shows completed problem
5. Demonstrate procedure to calculate totals using various formulas
a. Adding individual cells in column
b. Using the function SUM
6. Demonstrate procedure to copy formula from one cell to another

APPLICATION: (Student Activities)

Student will:
 open Excel and type table from the textbook or handout into worksheet
 insert formulas to calculate totals into rows and columns
 copy formulas from one cell to another

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION:
Teacher observation of student work with checklist of tasks
Inc checklist with 3 different sections

PRESENTATION: (Teacher Activities)
1. Using Visions, capture all computer stations
2. Demonstrate how to format text
a. Merge and center cells
b. Change font size
c. Change color of font
3. Demonstrate how to autoformat table using the Accounting 1 style

APPLICATION: (Student Activities)

Student will:
 Merge and center cells for title and subtitle
 Change the font size of the title and subtitle
 Change the font color for the title and subtitle
 Use autoformat to format table in Accounting 1 style

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION:
Teacher observation of student work with checklist of tasks

PRESENTATION: (Teacher Activities)
1. Using Visions, capture all computer stations
2. Demonstrate how to create an embedded chart
3. Demonstrate how to resize and move chart below table
4. Demonstrate how to:
b. Save the worksheet in spreadsheet folder as “Worksheet 1”
5. Demonstrate how to show formulas on worksheet
6. Demonstrate how to adjust column widths to fit worksheet on page
7. Demonstrate how to print the formulas

APPLICATION: (Student Activities)

Student will:
 Create an embedded chart, resize and move the chart below the table
 Create a spreadsheet folder and save the worksheet in the folder
 Show the formulas, adjust widths of columns to fit worksheet on page, and print the
worksheet showing the formulas and the chart
 Turn in completed work to teacher

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION: Using a handout of a table in columns with a title and subtitle

Student will:
 Create a worksheet of the data
 Insert formulas to calculate totals of rows and columns
 Merge and center the title and subtitle
 Change the font size and color of the title and subtitles
 Autoformat the table using the Accounting 1 style
 Create an embedded chart of the table
 Resize and move the chart
 Save the worksheet in the Spreadsheet folder
 Show the formulas, resize column widths to fit worksheet on one page
 Print the worksheet formulas

CLOSING:

Select one student to review lesson, capture student’s completed assignment and broadcast his/her
screen to all computers. Student will:
 review the main points of the lesson
 creating worksheet
 inserting formulas
 copying formulas
 formatting title and subtitles
 autoformatting the table
 creating an embedded chart
 creating a folder and saving the worksheet
 showing formulas and resizing columns to fit one page
 printing the worksheet formulas
 identify any problems encountered in the lesson

Class will discuss any problems encountered and make suggestions to improve instruction and
understanding

LESSON PLAN REFLECTION:

Teacher will make notations of student problems encountered, suggestions to improve instruction
and understand and make the adjustments in the lesson.
