Teaching with Medical Simulation Faculty Development Certificate This certificate program is designed for faculty who are thinking about using medical simulation in their teaching. Participants will have the opportunity to acquire new ideas and skills that will be helpful in designing and using medical simulation in their teaching. This certificate is collaboration between the Office of Faculty Affairs and the UMMS Simulation Center. Faculty who have previously taken medical simulation courses or workshops and/or have medical simulation teaching experience may be able to apply those experiences to the requirements for this certificate. To find out if those experiences may be transferred to requirements for this certificate, please complete and submit both forms below. Complete the following 3 courses offered through collaboration with the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Simulation Center. Register online for courses at: http://www.umassmed.edu/ofa/workshops/listing.cfm?iv=2 a. The UMMS Simulation Center: How to Get Started b. Developing Simulation Scenarios c. Debriefing Simulations 2. Write two simulation scenarios. 3. Have the two simulation scenarios peer reviewed by three members of the simulation center team and one identified peer. 4. Complete technical training for the mannequins and B-Line Clinical Skills System. 5. Pilot test each of the two scenarios. 6. Debrief each of the two scenarios post-implementation. 7. Participate in a debrief-of-the-debriefer with the simulation center team. 8. Construct a plan for further development, such as: a. Develop a plan to implement the scenarios with other learners and/or learning levels b. Develop a plan to implement the scenarios with other disciplines c. Make further modifications to the scenario d. Take the simulation to the next iteration or phase of development e. Prepare educational scholarship 9.
