NOTICE TO ALL CONTRACTORS
Police Check Clearances
In accordance with the Children’s Protection Act, the Police Check Unit which is
part of the Professional Standards Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide
has been established for the processing of police clearances within the Catholic
Due to this initiative, it is now the responsibility of all Catholic organisations,
including Catholic schools and parishes, to ensure that all Contractor and Sub
Contractor employees working at their premises have a current Police
Clearance through the Police Check Unit. Contractor employees who are not
police cleared will not be considered for work contracts.
A National Police Certificate (NPC) is accepted if within 3 months of issue.
Individuals will receive a clearance letter, with an expiry date of 3 years, directly
from the Police Check Unit; this letter must be shown to School/College staff prior
to commencement of work.

Police Check Process
A current National Police Certificate can be cleared in one of the following ways 2
or more weeks before work commences:
Original shown to the School/College nominated authorised person to fax
through the NPC to the Police Check Unit for a speedier reply.
OR if Confidentiality is required:
Individuals are able to deliver or post a CERTIFIED copy of the National
Police Certificate to the Police Check Unit (Certified documents will only be
accepted with a stamp and signature of a Justice of the Peace, Police Officer or
Commissioner for taking Affidavits).

Ensure that the individual’s role and role type is written on the copy of the NPC,
for example, contractor/electrician. This ensures all details are entered on the
Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare
Contractors must also be made aware of school, Occupational Health, Safety &
Welfare requirements. It is necessary for all Contractors who work within the
school grounds to undertake an Induction of our Catholic Church Safety Manual –
Policies and Procedures.
During this Induction your Licence, Public Liability and any specific training /
certificates also need to be sighted. A photocopy of these certificates will be kept
on file. A Contractors agreement will be given to you to complete and this is to
be returned before any commencement of work.
