                                           Visa Information (As of 03-03-08)
The following information has been obtained from the Turkish Embassy website and verified via telephone communications with
the Washington, DC Turkish Embassy personnel.

Citizens (ordinary passport holders) from the following countries are eligible to obtain a “Border Visa” upon arrival at the Istanbul
airport. However, based on conversations with the Washington, DC Turkish Embassy they have encouraged our conference
participants to apply for and obtain their visa’s prior to arrival in Istanbul. They indicated that July is a very busy travel period to
Istanbul and the “wait time” to obtain a visa at the airport could be lengthy. Couple this with getting through customs and your
time to get out of the airport could amount to a significant period of time.

Obtaining a Visa (Tourist or Business) in advance of your travel
The Turkish Embassy personnel strongly encouraged our conference participants to obtain their travel visa’s
in advance of their trip. The visa application should be completed and the accompanying documents should
be mailed to the Embassy of the participant’s jurisdiction. The turn-around for obtaining a visa is fairly quick,
for example the Washington Embassy is completing Visa applications in about a week’s time. The visa cost
for a US citizen is $37.00 and should be paid via a money order made out to the Turkish Embassy.
Approved visa’s for US citizens are valid for one year. Visa expiry dates vary by country and citizens from
countries other than the US should check with the closest Turkish Embassy to verify the expiration period
for their country (many are only valid for 90 days from the time of obtainment).
Steps to obtain a visa in advance
               1. Complete visa application form (available on the AREUEA website).
               2. The applicant is required to submit the following documents:
                      a. Valid travel document (passport)(it should be valid at least three months longer than the
expiry date of the request visa),
                      b. One passport size photograph of the applicant (it should be affixed on the top left side of
                           the visa application form),
                      c. Documents supporting the purpose and the conditions of the planned visit (such as, letter
of invitation, travel itinerary, round trip ticket, hotel reservation with payment guarantee
                           etc.),
                      d. Non-refundable visa processing fee (the amount differs depending on the nationality and
                           visa type),
                      e. If the person applies from a country other than his/her homeland, then he/she should also
submit his/her valid residence permit or any document that proves he/she legally stays in
                           that country.
                      f. If the person applies for a business visa, an invitation letter from the counterpart company
is also required in addition to the above-mentioned documents.
                      g. The applicant must send the above-mentioned documents and also a pre-paid or self-
stamped return envelope (DHL, Fed Ex, Express, UPS or some sort of insured/certified
mail is highly recommended, since the original passport will be returned inside that
                           envelope).
