                                                           2010 Spring Contact Meeting

                 TEAM TEACHING FLOW CHART

Before the lesson
 Consult with your JTE (cross-cultural knowledge / awareness)
 What are the goals of the lesson? What should students be able to do?
 What are the constraints of the classroom (student level, class size, budget,
learning disabled, behavioral problems, general atmosphere, past knowledge)?
 What are the roles of JTE / ALT?
Planning the Activities (writing the lesson plan): textbook / school requirements
 Theoretical framework (TESL/TEFL, immersion, grammar translation,
communicative approach and task-based learning, students as teachers)
 New Course of Study (MEXT approved general guidelines)
 4 Component Areas (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening + combinations)
 7 Intelligences (are the activities stimulating for different types of learners?)
 What activities are best for the goal (group work, explanation, game, worksheet)?
 Creating the materials, A/V aids (maps, charts, printouts, videos, CD/MP3)

During the lesson
 What teaching methods are you using (discussion, modeling, lecture, quiz)?
 Are JTE and ALT following planned roles? Do you need to re-evaluate?
 Are you fostering a communicative atmosphere? Are you using the target language?
 How is the pace of the class? Are you spending too much / little time on one activity?
 Behavior management / motivation (punishment and reward systems)
 Check for understanding (formal and informal evaluation / assessment methods)

After the lesson
 Finding a chance to evaluate the lesson with the JTE (time management)
 What went well? What could be improved? Were both teachers satisfied?
 Were the students able to meet the goals? Did they know what was going on?

Now it’s time to plan the next lesson!
