					         Commercialisation and Intellectual Property Session 2011
                                     Ramon Tozer
        Davies Collison Cave, 1 Nicholson Street, Melbourne, Vic, 3000, Australia

The commercialisation and intellectual property session has been part of the APS
programme since the 27th APS (Adelaide, 2004) and is structured to assist scientists
with understanding the patent system and the commercialisation of science.

With an ever increasing awareness amongst scientists of the importance of protecting
their scientific intellectual property, this session aims to highlight and discuss
practical aspects relating to patents that are often encountered in a research and
development environment. The session also provides a forum for presenters to
discuss issues associated with taking research and development into the commercial
world.

This year you will hear talks:

    - highlighting key practical issues for research and development concerning
             novelty, inventive step, and freedom to operate;
    -        outlining what makes research and development patentable;
    -        discussing the differences between the US and Australian patent systems;
    - providing an insight into the commercialisation of polymer science; and
    - discussing intellectual property reforms being introduced by the Australian
             patent Office

Please come and join us to not only listen to the talks, but also raise any questions you
might have about commercialisation and intellectual property.
