  Since 2007, Kaiser Permanente San Diego has been training staff and physicians on the tools
and techniques needed to reduce waste and improve efficiency, service and quality. This session
 is designed to provide an overview of the Lean Six Sigma tools and applications in health care.
                         Topics covered in this two part session include:

    •   How our approach to “building Lean from the ground up” has continued to move forward
    •   Our successful and not-so-successful efforts
    •   Key lessons we’ve learned and what we’ve seen to be success factors
    •   How we are using existing internal resources to implement, train, and develop a culture of
        Lean. How we plan to continue the momentum

Assistant Administrator of Finance, Kaiser San Diego Hospital and Health Plan
Lorna Curtis serves as the Assistant Administrator of Finance for Kaiser Permanente's San Diego
hospital and health plan. She has served in various progressive financial management roles since
joining Kaiser in 1991. Prior to that, Ms. Curtis worked in Finance for Scripps Memorial Hospital in
La Jolla. In addition to her healthcare experience, she has worked in the telecommunication and
aerospace industries. Ms. Curtis was the recipient of the TWIN award, Tribute to Women in
Industry, in 1994. In 1996, she received the "Women Who Mean Business" award from the San
Diego Business Journal.

Ms. Curtis graduated magna cum laude from University of Washington with a Bachelor of
Business Administration and was elected into Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a Master of Business
Administration from the University of San Diego. She is a Fellow of the American College of
Healthcare Executives. She is green belt certified in Lean Six Sigma performance improvement
methodology. Ms. Curtis resides in Scripps Ranch with her husband Terry, and they have a
grown daughter, Kelli. Her proudest current achievement is being grandmother to Caitlin,
Hannah, Eamon, Elvis (yes, she really does have an “Elvis”), and two sets of beautiful little twin
girls, Margaret and Iris born in October 2004, and Zoe and Selema, arriving as Christmas
presents two months later.

Director of Finance, Kaiser Southern California Permanente Medical Group
Danette Roberts is the Director of Finance for San Diego’s Kaiser Permanente Southern
California Permanente Medical Group where she has been employed for the past 31 years.
 Additionally, she is accountable for the Physician Compensation department and the Revenue
Integrity department focusing on internal controls for point of service collections and registration
staff training. Prior to joining the Finance Team in 1994, Ms. Roberts was the Director of the
Admitting Department and Hospital Business Office.

Ms. Roberts is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association where she has
served as the President, President-Elect and Treasurer for the San Diego/Imperial Chapter and is
currently a member of the Board and Program Committee. She is green belt certified in Lean Six
Sigma performance improvement methodology.

Diane Delaney is the vice president of Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Recruitment
Strategies, and Workforce Planning for Sharp HealthCare, an integrated health care system in
San Diego, Calif.

Since joining Sharp HealthCare in 1987, Delaney has managed numerous program areas in
Sharp’s human resources departments, overseeing the employee relations of nearly 14,000
employees and interpreting and negotiating Sharp’s labor contracts.

In addition to overseeing Sharp’s six human resources operations departments, Delaney has
management responsibilities for Sharp’s centralized Recruiting Department that receives
approximately 300,000 job applications annually. Delaney establishes innovative workforce
development programs demonstrated by Sharp’s consistently below-industry employee turnover
numbers.

Delaney represented Sharp’s Human Resources Division at the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National
Quality Award Recipient QUEST Conference, presenting Sharp’s recognized workforce programs
and processes.

She has a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in organizational management.
She is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Nursing at San Diego State and a member of
the Health Care Human Resources Management Association of Southern California (HHRMAC).
