ABOUT THIS POSITION
This position works independently or as part of a crew performing time sensitive, specialized work
with the water distribution or wastewater collection system. Utility Specialty Technician’s use laptop
computers to document work performed and retrieve service orders.

In Valve Operations, this position locates and operates large and small valves for both exercising and
isolating mains; makes small repairs, performs valve assessments, replaces and installs new valves
and brings valve boxes to grade.

The Support Services Section includes, but is not limited to work performed in all of the following
specialty operations; flow tests, hydrant repair, large transmission main/valve operation, large wet
taps, leak detection and water compliance.

In Blue Stake Operations, this position works independently to locate and mark sewer, water and
reclaimed water lines for contractors or other utilities in accordance with Arizona Blue stake laws;
ensures information on job orders is accurate by comparing between the City’s QS mapping system
and the GIS system to ensure accurate location; uses a laptop computer to update job order status
and write reports on incorrect or missing assets.

RECRUITMENT DATES

SALARY
$16.42 - $21.39 hourly / $34,154 - $44,491 annually.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
 One year of experience performing duties involving the installation, maintenance, repair, testing,
  monitoring of water distribution systems or
 One year of experience performing Blue Stake locating activities for the water distribution system,
  wastewater collection and water reclamation underground utilities.
 Incumbents assigned to the Blue Stake operations are required to possess a Grade I Water
  Distribution certification or a Grade I Wastewater Collection certification from the Arizona
  Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) at the time of hire. The additional Grade I
  certification must be obtained by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.
 Incumbents assigned to all of the other operations are required to possess a Grade I Water
  Distribution certification from ADEQ at the time of hire. A Grade II Water Distribution certification
  must be obtained by the end of the twelve-month probationary period.
 Some assignments may require an additional six months to one year of experience performing job
  duties specifically related to one or more of the specialty areas.
 Some positions may require travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, working in small
  cramped spaces and use of a variety of hand tools and electronic devices.
 Moving heavy objects 50 pounds or more long distances may also be required.
