Position: Assistant Cook
Location: Wildlife Research Station, Algonquin Provincial Park
Contract: Late April – late September (approx.)
Salary: $1500 per month (accommodations and meals included)

There Wildlife Research Station in Algonquin Provincial Park will be hiring a candidate to fill the
position of Assistant Cook. The contract of employment will be at minimum from May 1st until
September 7th, 2008, with a possible extension until late September pending availability. All meals
and accommodation (semi-private lakeside cabin) will be provided.

The Assistant Cook’s responsibilities will include:
    Assisting Head cook with providing nutritionally balanced meals (including
      omnivore/vegetarian) for 20 to 40+ people
    Assist with placing and receiving wholesale food orders
    Proper storage and rotation of food kept on-site
    Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and cookhouse facilities

The research station cookhouse provides 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, to researchers, field
technicians and staff. The Assistant Cook and the Head Cook will work together 3 days a week, and
independently 2 days a week, therefore planning and organizational skills, as well as the ability to
work unsupervised are crucial attributes of the successful applicant. The applicant would also benefit
from an interest in biological research and/or an appreciation for the outdoors.
Other desired qualifications include:
     Experience with food handling and preparation
     Knowledge of food safety guidelines
     Strong interpersonal skills

This is an excellent opportunity to live and work at a research station in a popular provincial park.
Spare time can be spent in the Wildlife Research Area, and the highway 60 corridor of Algonquin Park
has many hiking trails and facilities.
