        What is special about Galileo?

• Guaranteed services based on information to users
  on health of the signals (“integrity flags”)
• Possibility to broadcast value-added services to
  users
• Open service freely available to any user equiped
  with receiver/antenna system
• Higher accuracy than that provided by current
  GPS

           Galileo/GPS Inter-operability

• Enhanced performance by combined use of Galileo with
  other GNSS components (GPS, Glonass, augmentations
  such as EGNOS and WAAS), for all civilian applications

• System independence is fundamental to increase the
  overall robustness and inherent reliability of GNSS

• Galileo accuracy: basic positioning at level of few metres
  (better than current GPS)

            Main Achievements to date

• Critical technology developments completed: i.e clocks
• Two experimental satellites commissioned.
• Contract for launchers signed.
• First experimental satellite to be launched by end 2005.
• Ground segment test-bed already developed to
  experiment with Galileo-like processing algorithms.
• Phase C/D for the development of the in-orbit validation
  phase (IOV) initiated.
