Intention of the program

A highly skilled workforce is fundamental to the success of the screen industry. In providing internships, we aim to
achieve the following objectives:

 To develop the craft, technical skills and specialist expertise of the intern

 To facilitate an opportunity for on-going industry employment for the intern

 To support interns with relevant experience and a commitment to pursuing a career in their chosen internship
         field

 To contribute to strong and robust Victorian businesses

 To support companies and production houses to expand workforces

About the program

Interns will have the opportunity to increase professional experience, skills, contacts and knowledge through on-the-job
training with a Victorian screen industry company.

We'll contribute 50% of the intern's salary (pro-rata) for a 16-28 week placement. The host company will contribute the
balance and pay the salary plus other employee related costs (ie: super; workcover premiums and payroll tax) Shorter
internships will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Host Companies are eligible to apply for an additional $4,000 towards hardware and software (evidence of expenditure
will be required). Please note this money cannot be re-allocated for other intern associated costs such as mentoring.

Individuals are only able to receive one internship.

Self-brokered internships will also be considered. In these cases, the relevant Program Officer should be contacted
well in advance of the Host Company deadline. These internships will be considered alongside the Film Victoria
brokered opportunities.

Digital Media Internships

Digital media internships are available for graduates of post-secondary study and/or those who have some basic
industry experience. Placements are usually in specialised areas including animation, 3D modelling, compositing, FX
and programming. If you are a digital media intern, you may be placed with a post-production, animation, web or game
development studio.

We will also consider applications from more experienced practitioners who can demonstrate a very strong case of
professional development with their chosen host company.

How applications are assessed

Funding is competitive and we will select applicants that will contribute to a skilled and networked workforce. The
Assessment Panel looks for the following when assessing applications:

     Host companies that can demonstrate a good chance of ongoing employment for the intern;
 Interns with relevant experience and a commitment to pursuing a career in their chosen field; and
 A good “match” that will provide significant professional development for the intern and fulfil the host
      company’s future staffing needs.

Eligibility criteria

Digital Media Host Companies

 Incorporated in Australia and based in Victoria
 Relevant track record in area of internship
 Demonstrable throughput of production and the potential to provide ongoing employment
 Expertise in the area of the internship

Digital Media Interns

 Australian citizen or permanent resident
 Lived in Victoria for at least the last six months
       Post-secondary qualification in a relevant field, and/or
       Related work experience

Applicants can not apply for an internship with a host company where they have completed the equivalent of 6 or more
weeks full time work/work experience with that company.

How it works

    1. Host companies apply to the program by the host company deadline (using the host company application form)
    2. We will publicise the placements that the host companies are willing to offer
    3. Potential interns apply to the program, indicating their preferred host company by the intern deadline (using the
       intern application form)
    4. Eligible applications are sent to the intern’s first preference of host company
    5. Host companies compile a short-list of applicants and interview these applicants
    6. If appropriate, applications that didn’t make the short list are circulated to other potentially suitable host
       companies
    7. Host companies confirm their preferred candidate(s)
    8. The Professional Development Assessment Panel then considers the match for funding. Host companies and
interns can expect an answer within nine weeks of the intern deadline. Decisions made by the Assessment
       Panel are final.
